Mills resigns school committee
Heather Mills announced June 18 she is stepping down from the Biddeford School Committee.
Mills said her resignation was effective immediately. She said she will remain active in the community and hopes to return to public office in the future.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must resign from the school committee effective immediately. With the birth of our son Cooper in March and increased work, school and family commitments, I am unable to complete my term,” she said in a statement.
Mayor Joanne Twomey said Mills’ resignation has not been officially accepted. Twomey can either appoint someone to serve the rest of Mills’ term or leave the seat vacant until the November election, she said. Twomey said she tried to convince Mills to continue her work with the committee.
“I was hoping I could change her mind because I think she’s been a very good member of the school committee,” Twomey said.
Mills is the wife of ward 5 Councilor Bob Mills.
Cocaine dealer arrested
A Biddeford woman was arrested last week after allegedly selling cocaine in recent months, according to police.
Delvnia Snyder, 42, of Raymond Street, was arrested at her apartment June 15 by Biddeford police and Maine Drug Enforcement agents. She was charged with aggravated trafficking of cocaine and made her first appearance in York District Court June 17, according to police.
Police suspect Snyder sold a “substantial amount of crack cocaine in recent months.”
