Armand R. Sansoucy


Armand R. Sansoucy, 86, of Biddeford,  died Wednesday morning, June 24, 2009, at his home. He was born in Palmer, Mass.,  on Sept. 13, 1922, to Jean B. and Dorilla (Lamoureux) Sansoucy. He moved to the area in 1931 and was educated in Biddeford schools.

On Oct. 17, 1942, he was married to Georgette G. Brunet in St. Andre’s Church, Biddeford.

Mr. Sansoucy worked three years with the South Portland Shipyard during World War II, 12 years with the Saco-Lowell Shop in Biddeford, four years with Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in Biddeford and 21 years with Saco-Tanning Corp. in Saco. He retired in 1983.

Surviving include his wife of 66 years, of Biddeford; his son, Andre “Butch” Sansoucy of Saco; his sister, Theresa Bald of Somersworth, N.H.;  four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews

A memorial funeral service was Saturday at Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford, ME 04005. Memorial donations in Armand’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.


Judith M. Desjardins


Judith M. Desjardins, 59, of Biddeford, died Thursday morning, June 25, 2009, at the Gosnell House in Scarborough after a long illness with cancer.

 She was born in Madawaska on June 6, 1950, to Adrien and Viola Pelletier Desjardins. She was educated in Madawaska schools and graduated from Madawaska High School in the class of 1968.

Mrs. Desjardins worked 15 years at UNUM in South Portland and last worked five years at AETNA Insurance Co. in Portland

Surviving include her sons, Jason Martin and his wife, Kiana,  of Shirley, Mass., and Derrick Martin of South Portland; her brothers, Robert Desjardins and his wife, Yvonne, of Grand Isle, Daniel Desjardins and his wife, Carol, of Madawaska, Scott Desjardins and his wife, Libby, of Cecilia, Ky., Ronald Desjardins and Peter Desjardins of Madawaska and Rick Desjardins and his wife, Stacey, of Summersville, S.C.; her sisters, Joan Marquis and her husband, David, of Saco, and Linda Morin and her husband, Andrew, of Ft. Kent; and her  granddaughter, Amanda Martin.

A memorial funeral service was Tuesday at Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford, with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery in Madawaska.

  Memorial donations in her name may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1 Suite 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Gertrude Frechette Bonaceto


Gertrude Frechette Bonaceto, 88, of Biddeford, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Monarch Center of Saco.

 She was born in Biddeford on Feb. 14, 1921, to Edmond and Emilia Lauzon Laroche and was educated at St. Andre’s Grammar School and Biddeford High School. 

 On Aug. 29, 1942, she was married to Edward Frechette at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford. Together they built a new home on Summer Street in Biddeford, and enjoyed traveling to Canada to visit relatives. They loved going to the beaches, but most of all they enjoyed going to Bunganut Pond to visit her sister, Gil and husband Bob’s camp many weekends in the summer months. For many years she worked at Day’s jewelers and La Corseterie in Biddeford.

Mrs. Bonaceto enjoyed music and played the piano, delighting the family on holidays and at family gatherings as recently as last Thanksgiving. She was first and foremost a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. 

She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for 57 years, and in her later years she organized plays and enjoyed playing the piano for the 50+ Club of Biddeford senior citizens.

Her husband Edward died in 1988. In 1993 she married Arthur Bonaceto and the two traveled to many places, including Hawaii, Las Vegas and San Francisco before his death in 2003. 

Survivors include her son, Gerard Frechette and his wife, Patricia, of Saco; her daughter, Elaine Thibault and her husband, John, of Alexandria, Va., her sister, Gilbert Gagnon and her husband, Robert, of Biddeford; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. 

 Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford. 


Frederick ‘Bud’ Rohwedder


Frederick “Bud” C. Rohwedder, Jr., 89, of Biddeford Pool, died June 20, 2009, at his home after a short period of declining health.

 He was born Dec.10, 1919, in Somerville, Mass., the seventh child of the late Frederick Claussen and Amelia (Von Schoppe) Rohwedder. He was a longtime resident of Reading, Mass., before moving to Biddeford Pool in 1973.

 He graduated from Lexington (Mass.) High School and earned an associates degree in engineering from Northeastern University. 

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps. 

He worked in the Boston Naval Shipyard as a progressman and retired in 1972. 

Mr. Rohweddeer was an active parishioner at The Union Church in Biddeford Pool, a 32nd-degree Mason and a Shriner as well as a volunteer at the community firehouse in Biddeford Pool. 

In his spare time he loved playing golf at the Abenakee Golf Club and puttering in the basement making golf clubs for friends and family. Winters were spent vacationing in Florida. 

He was predeceased by his first wife Edna, (Lambert) Rohwedder, and his second wife, Bernice (Alexander) Rohwedder, and three brothers and three sisters.

 Survivors include his sons, Frederick W. Rohwedder, D.M.D. and his wife, Wendy, of Oxford, Conn. and Robert L. Rohwedder and his wife, Beth, of Middleton, Mass.; three grandchildren, Scott C. Rohwedder and his wife, Jennifer, of Southbury, Conn., Brooke Boutilier and her husband, Jeffrey, of New York City, and Landon Rohwedder of Middleton, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Zachary Rohwedder of Southbury, Conn.; and his companion, Norma Abbott of Biddeford Pool.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at The Union Church, 3 Stone Cliff Road, Biddeford Pool.

 Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Union Church.
