November craft fair


The Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge will be sponsor its Third Annual Craft Fair Nov.7 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Applications and payments for tables are due by Sept. 30. For more information, call Mary Ellen Desjardins at 284-8776.


OOB seeks donations

for petanque courts


Donations being accepted in the Old Orchard Beach town clerk’s office at town hall for three petanque courts at Veteran’s Memorial Park.  The town plans its first tournament either this fall or early next summer.


BHS class of 1949

plans 60th reunion


The Biddeford High School class of 1949 will hold its 60th class reunion at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, at the Captain’s Galley in Old Orchard Beach. For more information, call 518-810-3698.

 

Car show, dance in

Biddeford Saturday


The Maine Coastal Cruisers and Biddeford Downtown Development Commission will co-sponsor Cruisin’ and Block Dance, from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at City Square and on Lincoln Street. The event will feature more than 100 collectible cars, ranging from Model Ts to Corvettes, and the band  “Spectrum” will perform.  The show and music are free. 


Labor Day 5K race

planned for Biddeford


The first Labor Day Classic 5K road race and 2-mile walk will be held 9 a.m. Sept. 7 at the Biddeford YMCA. Online registration and same-day registration is $15. Same-day registration starts at 7 a.m.

Basketball tourney

registration open

 The Old Orchard Beach Recreation is now taking registrations for the area’s first 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament, Thursday, Aug. 27, through Saturday, Aug. 29, at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Old Orchard Beach.

 The event is open to high school students and adults. Format will be double elimination tournament.Cost is $100 per team, which includes referee fees. Registrations will be accepted through Aug. 21 by 4 p.m. For more information, call 934-0860.


Miss Maine Pageant

will be held in Saco


The Pine Tree Scholarship Organization, a division of the Miss Maine Scholarship Program, will hold the 2009 Miss Maine Day Scholarship Pageant at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Hampton Inn, 48 Industrial Park Road, Saco.

 Age categories are Miss Mini Maine for ages 4 to 7, Little Miss Maine for ages 8 to 11,  Miss Maine’s Young Teen for ages 12 to 14 and Miss Teen Maine for ages 15 to 17. 

 Special guest performers and hosts of this year’s pageant are Suzanna Stauble, Miss Maine 2009 and Saco’s Kristin Korda, Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen 2009.

Biddeford Pool hosts

Community Weekend


Community Weekend will be celebrated Saturday and Sunday at Biddeford Pool.  All are welcome to join in the festivities and to Light the Night for Education on Saturday evening.  Events include the Artists by the Sea art show and sale each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wood Island Lighthouse tours Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. (seats must be reserved for the LightRunner), Light the Night lantern lighting, cookout and concert beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, and beach bonfires with music and stories from 7 to 9 p.m. 


Salvation Army holds

annual fundraising sale


The local Salvation Army will hold its annual indoor sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 2 Sixth St. in Old Orchard Beach. Items for sale will include baked goods, handcrafted items, framed fine art, books, household goods, jewelry, Christmas decorations, miscellaneous items as well as a coffee break and lunch menu items. Proceeds of the sale will be used to assist various projects and programs to benefit many individuals located in the community as well as funds to support the world mission program.  


Tractor pull benefits

Make-A-Wish children


The Southern Maine Garden Tractor Club will host a Tractor Pull Sunday at 448 Boom Road in Saco to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. Children from the Tractor Club are donating the use of their small tractors so wish kids can try driving a tractor and making a “pull.”  

The event includes a potluck dinner, trophies, a fire engine, a show tractor exhibit, ribbons, a barbecue and live auction. The tractor pull begins at noon, and lunch is at noon. The auction at 1 p.m. will feature flowers, plants, lobsters, baked goods and gift certificates.
