Food donation makes difference
We recently received a 900-pound donation at the Saco Food Pantry from the Legacy Theater Company of much-needed food that was donated by their audience supporters.
Now a win-win opportunity is coming your way at the Garland Auditorium at Thornton Academy on Aug. 13 to Aug. 23. The Legacy Theater Company will be showcasing its talent in the play “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” By attending you see a play, encourage and support our local talent and also lend support to the Saco Food Pantry with a suggested donation of non-perishable food. What better way to spend an evening than by helping those in need.
We also thank the Saco & Biddeford Savings Bank for matching the funds donated by all who participated in the BBI Golf Tournament this year. And special thanks to Archie and Kenny for always being there for us.

Firefighters save a home
On Friday, July 24, I had an electrical fire in my home. I wish to thank Chief Glass of the Old Orchard Fire Department and his fire personnel, as well as the Pine Point Fire Department, Old Orchard Beach Rescue and all the volunteer fire personnel who came to my aid.
Without their quick response I could have lost my home. Their concern for my safety and home were outstanding.
Thank you one and all.

Neighbors praise UNE
What do smiling children, basketball players, young woman in shorts and seniors in sweats or bathing suits have in common? University of New England. UNE opens its doors to the surrounding communities and shares the expertise of its staff with individuals of all ages.
For children it provides summer camps, sports camps and swimming lessons that give children an opportunity to be on a vibrant campus with good role models.
For adults and seniors it provides the Bodywise Program with individual or group exercising, educational programs and social gatherings.
Since 2001 when we joined the Bodywise Program, we have been impressed with the caring, encouraging attitude of the staff and the generosity of the students who freely share the facilities. It is inspiring to be around these young people who are the future of our country and it helps one to keep a positive attitude about life.
Thank you to UNE for caring about the community and thank you to the Courier for allowing us to express our gratitude to our good neighbor - UNE.
