Police investigate reports of car following children

Concerned residents in Saco and Old Orchard Beach reported a suspicious car to police last week.
Saco Police Sgt. David Loranger said his department investigated a complaint of a white car following children in a neighborhood off Jenkins Road on the evening of Sept. 28. Residents said the man drove through the neighborhood a couple times.
Loranger said police interviewed the man and determined he did not attempt to contact any children in the area. The man was not engaged in any criminal activity in Saco, he said, and was looking for work.
“We want to assure the community the matter has been reviewed,” he said. “We have no indication this individual is a threat to children in Saco.”
Old Orchard Beach Deputy Police Chief Keith Babin said police received two similar complaints last week. Residents said the man was acting suspiciously in a neighborhood and in the vicinity of the schools.
Babin said police interviewed the man and determined he did nothing wrong.
Both Babin and Loranger said people should always report suspicious behavior to police. When they see suspicious activity, people should record the license plate number and description of the car and person for police, Babin said. Loranger said he encourages parents to supervise their children.
