Police find ID of suspect with stolen goods

A Biddeford man faces a long list of charges after police say they found his photo identification in a bag of stolen medicatons.
Police Chief Roger Beaupre said Shawn Emerton was arrested after an officer found him taking items from a car on Quimby Street, then visited him in jail hours later to question him about a robbery the same morning.
Emerton, 23, of Biddeford, was arrested around 8 a.m. Oct. 28 after an officer on routine patrol saw Emerson standing outside a Lincoln Navigator holding a bag. As the officer approached, a second man came out of a nearby home to say the bag belonged to him.
The bag Emerton was holding contained 14 CDs, a pair of size 2 short Express jeans, an Apple iPod, Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, a leather Coach CD case with 10 CDs, a silver necklace, change, two steak knives, a tire pressure gauge and two mismatched gloves, according to Beaupre.
After he was handcuffed, Emerton attempted to flee and spit in an officer’s face, according to dispatch logs. During questioning he admitted to detectives that he entered the vehicle, according to police.
Emerton was transported to York County Jail.
At around 11 a.m., police received a call from an 85-year-old woman reporting a man entered her daughter’s Bradbury Street home earlier in the morning, Beaupre said.
The Bradbury Street woman told police she got up for work around 6 a.m. and noticed a sliding door in her apartment was open. She said she closed it only to notice it was open again a few minutes later. Beaupre said the woman though it was “odd” but continued getting ready for work.
Beaupre said the woman went into her bedroom then noticed a man standing in her kitchen holding two steak knives. The woman asked the man what he was doing and he demanded money, according to police.
The woman told the man she had $4 in cash. Beaupre said the man then asked the woman, “What if I stick you with one of these (knives)?”
Beaupre said the woman responded by telling the man “she was not going to die over $4.”
“She told him to leave and apparently he just walked off,” he said.
Beaupre said detectives remembered finding two steak knives in the bag of items taken from the car that fit the description of those removed from the home. The woman was able to identify the two knives as hers, he said.
While canvassing the area of Quimby Street where Emerton was first arrested, officers found a pillow sham full of medication taken from the Bradbury Street home. Emerton’s photo identification also was found in the sham, Beaupre said.
Deputy Police Chief JoAnne Fisk said Emerton was arrested on the felony robbery charge and expects he also will be indicted for burglary of a motor vehicle, assault, refusal to submit to arrest and criminal mischief.
Beaupre said car burglaries happen sporadically around the city and residents should make sure their vehicles are locked.
