Raymond F. Ouellette

 

Raymond F. Ouellette, 83, of Biddeford, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

 He was born March 10, 1926, in Biddeford to Etienne and Hortense (Magnan) Ouellette.

He was educated locally at St. Andre’s School and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1944.  

Mr. Ouellette served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. 

He was employed as a Maine U.S.D.A. inspector and retired in 1981 due to ill health.

On Nov. 1, 2003, he married Charlotte Curlew Lapointe Paradis at St. Margaret’s Church.

Mr. Ouellette was a member of St. Margaret’s Parish and formerly of St. Andre’s Parish, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Luke E. Hart Council and a member of the Spouse of the Holy Spirit and the Little House of Prayer prayer groups. He belonged to the American Legion Post # 0019 in Sanford and was an original organizer of the PAPSWA Indian Tribe of Boy Scout Troop 310 of Saco (also known as the Chief Edition).  He also served as advisor to the York County Order of the Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America.

 He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was always active in church groups.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Rita Lescord Ouellette in 1990;  two brothers, Leo and Rene Ouellette and his sister, Laurianne Vermette.

Besides his wife, Charlotte Ouellette of Old Orchard Beach, he is survived by a son, Paul Ouellette and his wife, Leann, of Arundel; a sister, Rita Mooney, of Scarborough; a grandson, Daniel, of Augusta; five stepchildren, Tina, Ellen, Joseph, Robert and Ralph; 20 nieces and nephews and many stepgrandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford, with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.

 Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Cecile D. Delcourt

 

Cecile D. Delcourt, 59, of Ocean Park, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. 

She was born Sept. 2, 1950, in Biddeford to Leopold and Irene Brodet Delcourt. She was educated in local parochial schools and received her G.E.D. from Biddeford High School.

She worked in local factories and in various secretarial positions. 

 Ms. Delcourt was a beano enthusiast and also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devout Catholic whose faith was very important to her. She volunteered her time with local organizations to help the handicapped and also at local soup kitchens. 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley McAvoy, in 1990.

Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Dorr and her husband, Leon, of Fairfield; a brother, Phillip Delcourt of Biddeford; three sisters, Anne Houle and her husband, Raymond, of Goffstown, N.H., Anita Davis and her husband, Richard, of Sandown, N.H. and  Nancy Sarette and her husband, Michael, of Vermont, N.H.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was Saturday at Hope Memorial Chapel.  Burial will be in Tozier Cemetery in Fairfield.

 Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Roberta J. Witham

 

Roberta J. Witham, 56, of Biddeford, died of cancer Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009.

 She was born March 29, 1953, in Waterville to Dana Witham and Florence DeWitt.  She attended Saco schools and was a lifelong resident of the Biddeford-Saco area. 

Ms. Witham worked as a bartender at the Thatcher Hotel and Pop’s Tavern.  She was always full of fun, loved country music, parties, car racing and spoiling her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence DeWitt, a brother, Darin DeWitt and a sister, Valaniece DeWitt.

Survivors include her father of Oakland; two children, Shannon and William Delisle; four grandchildren, Cody Delisle, Tiffany Delisle, Brian Patch and Kadyen Delisle; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Wesley Brann of Wells; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Royce and Jony Stevens of Biddeford, Danny and Debbie DeWitt of North Berwick and Douglas and Vickie DeWitt of Waterboro and several nieces and a nephew.

A graveside service was Tuesday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.

Bruce G. Savoy

 

Bruce G. Savoy, 55, of Old Orchard Beach, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009.

He was born on July 26, 1954, in Biddeford, to Real L. Savoy Sr. and Eunice G. (Jamieson) Savoy. He was educated in the Old Orchard Beach school system.

He was employed as a code enforcement officer with the town of Wells. He previously worked as a police officer for both Wells and Old Orchard Beach, and was a member of the call fire department. He was also a former animal control officer and was outspoken on animal welfare issues.

He won the Governor’s Service Award in 2001 after being nominated by Sweetser Children’s Services, for mentoring an at-risk youngster for six years, starting when the child was 9.

He and his wife, Stacey, were devoted to their two German shepherd rescue dogs, Samson and River. They traveled around the state participating in searches for lost children, missing elderly people and others.  

  He was preceded in death by his wife, Stacey Simpson Savoy; his father, Real L. Savoy Sr.; and a brother, Maynard Savoy.

He is survived by his mother Eunice G. Savoy of Old Orchard Beach; by three brothers, Real L. Savoy Jr. of Uxbridge, Mass.; Larry Savoy and his wife, Joan, of Saco, and Richard Savoy and his wife, Tina, of North Waterboro; two sisters, Linda Janson and her husband, Raymond, of Old Orchard Beach and Judy Rizas of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was Monday at The New Life Church in Biddeford, with burial in Greenwood cemetery.

Lillian D. Beaulieu

 

Lillian D. Beaulieu, 86, of Biddeford, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Seal Rock Healthcare Center.  She was born Aug. 23, 1923, in St. Agathe to Severin and Katherine (Cyr) Dumond and was educated there.

On Feb.13, 1943, she married Romeo Beaulieu in New Britain, Conn.

Mrs. Beaulieu was employed at the Pepperell Mills for 25 years and later worked from her home as  a seamstress.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul.  She took special interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their events and activities.  The family dog, “Gator” also held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Romeo Beaulieu, on Aug. 1, 1998; her son, Norman Beaulieu, on Sept. 19, 2003; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Beaulieu and his wife, Louise, of Saco, and Lionel Beaulieu and his wife, Barbara of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Camire, and her husband, Dan Bellemare, of Saco; her daughter-in-law: Joanne Beaulieu of Enfield, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer Beaulieu of Enfield, Conn.,  Jeff Camire and his wife, Melissa, of Biddeford, Christie Napier and her husband, Greg, of Natick, Mass., Carrie Shusteff and her husband, Sasha, of Winchester, Mass., Brian Beaulieu of Starkville, Miss., and Andrea Beaulieu of Birmingham, Ala.; and five great-grandchildren.

Donations in Mrs. Beaulieu’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Sister Nora Herbet

 

Sister Nora Hebert, formerly known as Sister St. Theresia, died at St. Joseph Convent on Thursday, Nov.  19, 2009, at the age of 92.

   Sister Nora was the 11th child in a family of 13 children born to Frank Hebert and Agnes Gagnon.  She was born in Guerette on Sept. 10, 1917.  She attended elementary school in Madawaska and Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren.  After graduation, she entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in Biddeford in August 1935.

After her initial training in religious life, Sister Hebert spent a year at the Scholasticate at the Mother House in Quebec. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, Mass. Her teaching career of more than 25 years in elementary and high schools took her to Caribou, Hamlin, Van Buren, Grand Isle, Old Town, Biddeford and to St. Ann School in Lawrence and Mont Carmel School in Methuen, Mass.  In Old Town she was superior/bookkeeper and principal of

St. Joseph School as well as director of the catechetical and pastoral programs in the parish.

When Sister Hebert retired from teaching, she became director of the infirmary at St. Joseph Convent, where she provided for the material and spiritual needs of the sick sisters. Because of illness she had to resign from her position in 1999.  However she continued to radiate joy by her humorous and sunny disposition.

Sister Hebert is survived by several nieces and nephews. The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at  St. Joseph Convent  on  Monday, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Louis P. Provencher

 

Louis Philippe Provencher, 88, who was born and educated in Biddeford, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Linda, following a battle with cancer.

He was born July 4, 1921, to Omer Provencher and Albertine Masse.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and later retired as a master machinist from Bendix Corp. in California.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Dubois of Biddeford; their oldest son, Norman; and his second wife, Helen Hughes of Dunedin, Fla.

He is survived by his younger son, Barry, of Suwanee; his daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Patrick Frey; his two sisters, Therese and Doris Faucher (Norman) and his nephew, Robert Provencher, of Biddeford; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Paul ‘P.J.’ Gregoire

 

Paul “P.J.” Gregoire, 60, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at his home with his family at his side.

 He was born May 3, 1949, in Portland, the only child of Joseph and Annette (Roy) Gregoire. He graduated from St. Louis High School in 1967 and from St. Francis College in 1971.

On Sept. 18, 1971, he married Linda P. Provost at St. Joseph’s Church, Biddeford.

Mr. Gregoire last worked with Sweetser in Saco for more than 10 years as an educational technician before taking medical leave in April. He previously worked at Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Portland for five years as a claims specialist and with the Air National Guard, South Portland, as a master sergeant technician.

He was a parishioner of St. Andre’s Church for many years. He was also a member of the Biddeford Eagles Club, the Biddeford/Saco Elks and a longtime member of the St. Louis Alumni.  He was an avid golfer, often playing at the Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel. He also enjoyed playing billiards with his family and friends at his home and traveling with his wife. Overall, he loved spending time with his family as a proud husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph N. Gregoire.

Survivors include his wife of more than 38 years, Linda P. Gregoire; his mother, Annette Gregoire; his son, Jason E. Gregoire and his wife, Katie; his daughter, Amy L. Hammond and her husband, John; and his granddaughter, Kaylie Hammond, all of Biddeford.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at St. Andre’s Church, of the Good Shepherd Parish, Biddeford, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.

Lena A. Bilodeau

 

Lena A. Bilodeau, 92, of Biddeford died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Southern Maine Medical Center following a short illness.

  She was born June 27, 1917, in Plainfield, Conn., to Thomas and Marie Louise Farland Plourde and was educated there.

She moved to Nashua, N.H., as a young woman and was employed there by Nashua Textile.

On Nov. 4, 1939, she married Joseph O. Bilodeau at St. Francis Xavier Church in Nashua.  She moved to Biddeford in 1952 and worked at Lunder Shoe Products in Saco until she retired in 1988.

Mrs. Bilodeau was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.  She belonged to the Ross Center Knitting Club, and made knitted goods for the needy.  She was also a member of the Northern York County “Y.”

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; three brothers, Henry, Tony and Gerard; and a sister, Lucille Kennedy.

Survivors include one son, Richard A. Bilodeau and his wife, Priscille, of Saco; one daughter, Doris Marchand and her husband, Fernand, of Biddeford; a brother, Lucien Plourde and his wife, Doris; two sisters, Blanche Belanger and her husband, Rober, Theresa Racine and her husband, Gerard, all of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Diane O’Neill of Old Orchard Beach, Michelle Arsenault and her husband, Steve, of Saco and Bryan Bilodeau of Sanford; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Meagan Arsenault of Saco; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.

Charles E. Cole

 

Charles E. Cole, 85, of Lyman died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Southern Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness. 

He was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Boston to Joseph T. and Marion Emery Cole.

He attended Kennebunk schools and after two years at Kennebunk High he completed high school at New Hampton Academy in New Hampshire.

Mr. Cole matriculated at Bowdoin College, but interrupting his studies to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  He returned to Bowdoin after his service and graduated in 1949.

In 1950 he married Nancy Dakin of Conway, N.H.  They had three sons, Joseph, Jeffrey and Steven.  Hi wife died in 1979.

Mr. Cole was a fourth-generation member of Cole Harrison Insurance Agency in Kennebunk for 35 years and served as its president for many years.  He retired in 1985.

In 1985 he married Karin Wendland at South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport, and  augmented his family with three stepchildren, Eric, Brittany and Thor Wendland.  His family includes seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren;  two sisters, Barbara Perry of Kennebunk and Judy Simonds and her husband, Stephen, of Cape Elizabeth; and six nieces and nephews.

He was a member and trustee of the South Congregational Church, Kennebunkport, and was currently a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kennebunk.  Among his civic activities he was president of the Independent Insurance Association of Maine, founder and commodore of the Arundel Yacht Club of Kennebunkport, member of the Conservation Committee of the Kennebunks for many years, a member of the Kennebunk Industrial Development Corp. and the Kennebunk Rotary.

Mr. Cole loved music and singing, and played clarinet with a dance band that performed on the Old Orchard Beach Pier.  He also sang with the Portland Community Chorus and the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Choir. For many years he enjoyed spending time at his vacation home in Nova Scotia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Joseph Titcomb Cole Jr., who died at age 4.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Storer Street, Kennebunk. Burial will be in the family lot at Hope Cemetery in Kennebunk in the spring followed by a celebration of his life at a location to be announced.
