Saint Joseph’s College freshman swimmer Christine Cote of Biddeford received Rookie of the Week honors for the second time from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
In a win over Husson on Jan. 16, Cote notched a pair of top finishes and a runner-up effort on the day. The first-year swimmer won the 50 free (28.32) and 200 free (2:16.72) events and placed second in the 500 free (6:22.07).
Cote received the same honor from the conference on Nov. 24 after notching a pair of wins and two runner-up efforts against Regis College on Nov. 21.
Corey Hart represented the Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge No. 1597 in the boys 12 to 13 age group during the Maine Elks Association State Hoop Shoot competition last Saturday at Brewer High School in Brewer. Eighteen boys and girls competed in the contest to determine six state champions who will advance to the regional contest March 26-28 in South Portland.
Charlie Burch, the men’s assistant lacrosse coach at the University of New England, was honored Jan. 16 as US Lacrosse Man of the Year during the organization’s convention in Baltimore, Md. Burch, a longtime coach at Kennebunk High School and Cape Elizabeth High School, won 289 games as a high school head coach.
