Alberta G. Cote

 

Alberta G. Cote, 86, of Biddeford, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Southridge Living Center after a long illness.

 She was born May 6, 1924, in St. Samuel, Quebec, to Alphonse and Regina Belanger Roy and was educated in Canadian schools.

She came to the local area as a young girl.

On Feb. 9, 1952, she married Fernand J. Cote at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco. He died Oct. 10, 2006.

Mrs. Cote worked for a few years at Bates Manufacturing Co. before moving to Hartford, Conn., where she worked in housekeeping for the Aetna Insurance Co. She retired and moved back to Maine in 2000.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing and was a member of St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.

Survivors include her daughter, Louise Boudreau and her husband, Raymond, of Biddeford; a brother, Jules Roy of Trenton, Fla.; six sisters, Lauraine Bisson and Laurette Foley of Lac Megantic, Quebec, Annette Goulet of Biddeford and Yvonne Paquet of Biddeford, Aline Breton of Saco and Solange Morneau of Kennebunk; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Leslie N. Hansen Jr.

 

Leslie Neil Hansen Jr., 76, of Sanford, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the H. D. Goodall Hospital following a brief illness.

  He was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Muskogee, Okla., to Leslie and Delores (Durham) Hansen Sr.

On June 27, 1959, he married Mary-Sue Twomey at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA.

Mr. Hansen served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars.  After his military service he was employed at C.E. Avery of Newington, N.H., and then at Southern Maine Medical Center. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Hansen was a member and past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians at St. Mary Church. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary-Sue Hansen of Sanford; a daughter, Deborah Lund and her husband, Eric, of Alfred; two sons, David Hansen of Orange Park, Fla., and Mark Hansen and his wife, Dawn, of Springvale; a sister, Mary-Jane Audino of Eagle River, Alaska; and 11 grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Jean L. Lambert

 

Jean L. Lambert, 74, of Biddeford, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at his residence.

He was born in Canada on Feb. 22, 1936, to Urbain and Rose Belanger Lambert. He graduated from Thornton Academy.      

Mr. Lambert served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Air Force.

He was employed by General Electric in South Portland for eight years and also worked at Allied Shoe in Saco for several years. He later was employed by Mildred Day School in Arundel and as a security guard at Westpoint Pepperell in Biddeford. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Lambert was a member of Biddeford Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Huot Lambert, on Aug. 23, 1996, and by one brother, Louis, and one sister, Marie Boucher.

He is survived by one son, Jay E. Lambert and his wife, Tammy, of Biddeford; a brother Paul Lambert and his wife, Joan, of Saco; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

 Gabrielle R. Camire

 

Gabrielle R. Camire, 89, of Biddeford, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at St. Andre Health Care Facility after a long illness.

She was born in Biddeford on Oct. 1, 1920, to Florido and Ozide Desrochers Roberge and was educated in Biddeford schools.

On Sept.13, 1947, she married Romeo F. Carmire at St. Andre Church in Biddeford. He died Feb. 11, 2001.

Mrs. Camire worked a few years at Kesslen Shoe Shop in Kennebunk and Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford. She enjoyed knitting and caring for her family.

She was predeceased by five brothers, Albert, Adrian, Roland, Ralph and Fernand and five sisters, Fernande, Pauline, Yvette, Alice and Rosa.

Survivors include one son, Steven A. Camire and his wife, Lillian, of Saco; two daughters, Elaine Henson and her husband, Mike, of Detroit and Janice L. Ouellette and her husband, David, of Buxton; a brother, Guy Roberge of Biddeford; a sister, Cecile Lottinville of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Edmund ‘Matt’ Hickey

 

Edmund Matthias “Matt” Hickey, 80, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., following a months-long fight with Legionnaires’ disease.

He was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Biddeford to James and Jane Hickey and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1946. He attended Maine Maritime Academy before working for the construction company Stone Webster. Hickey served in the U.S. Army during the latter part of the Korean War as a member of a combat engineering battalion.

He worked for more than 15 years as a road and bridge construction surveyor before returning to college to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education in the late 1960s under the G.I. bill.  One of his most notable construction projects was laying out the path of the Maine Turnpike as it was being built in the late 1940s.

 On Jan. 2, 1960, he married Mary Margaret Patricia McSweeney at St. Margaret Church in Old Orchard Beach.  They were divorced in 1986.  He taught first at Fairfield School in Saco and then American history at Biddeford High School from 1970 until he retired in 1990.

He was a member of St. Mary Church and the St. Louis Alumni Association. As his children grew, he later served on Biddeford’s historical commission and was appointed to the Maine State Historical Commission. He will be remembered by all who met him as a person with a strong work ethic and sarcastic sense of humor.  At times, he was teaching full time at Biddeford High School, teaching at night to adult learners and refereeing varsity, junior varsity and freshman high school and youth football games.  He enjoyed gardening, skiing, reading and, most of all, golfing. 

He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, John and James and his sister, Julia.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Elizabeth Hickey of Acton, Mass.; his daughter and son-in-law, Nora Jane Hickey and David Goldstaub of Vestal, N.Y.; his brother, Maurice Hickey of Lansing, Mich.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Beatrice Blais

 

Beatrice Blais, 89, of Biddeford, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at St. Andre Health Care Facility after a long illness.

She was born Sept.29, 1920, in Victoriaville, Quebec to Alfred and Clara Bourassa Guay and was educated in Victoriaville schools.

She moved to this area in 1936 and  worked at the Bates, Pepperell and Biddeford textile mills for more than 30 years and retired in 1982

She was a member of St. Joseph Church.  She enjoyed knitting and attending family gatherings.

She was predeceased by her son, Andre Blais, in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Aime Blais Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of  Saco and Guy Blais and his wife, Cindy, of Saco; three daughters, Therese Berard and her husband, Renald, of Sanford, Rolande “Rolly” St. Pierre and her husband, Rene “Larry”, of Old Orchard Beach and Rita Howe and her husband, Paul, of Biddeford; one sister, Lina Chenard of Saco;

21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
