Obituaries
Arthur “Skip” B. Huot, 74, of Saco, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born Jan. 13, 1936, in Biddeford to Laurence and Marjorie Brackett Huot.
He was a 1953 graduate of Thornton Academy and graduated in 1961 from the University of Maine at Orono, where he was a brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was employed as a stockbroker and banker in Boston.
In 1965, he returned to Saco and purchased Paul Grace Insurance Co. and merged with his parents’ company, GA Carter Insurance Co.
He always thought of the larger community and volunteered to help others in many different organizations including, Jaycees, Saco Lodge of Elks, Saco Business Association, Saco Food Pantry, Thornton Academy Alumni and Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was a lifelong member. He also served on the board of directors of Laurel Hill Cemetery, Industrial Park Association and Dyer Library Association.
Mr. Huot was a great supporter of Boston Red Sox and Patriots football. But one of his greatest joys was bass fishing at Pickerel Pond with his good friend, Bud Waycott.
Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan at all of their sporting events and activities. He also enjoyed many moments fishing with his grandchildren.
Mr. Huot survived by his wife of 50 years, Sallie Sinclair Huot of Saco; his daughters and sons-in-law, Ronda Searles of Kezar Falls, Heather and Alex Stachtiaris of Boxford, Mass., and Amy and Shawn Ouellette of Saco; and six grandchildren.

Linda J. Malloy
Linda J. Malloy, 52, of Wells died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness with a brain infection.
She was born Feb. 13, 1958, in Biddeford to Joseph E. and Blanche D. Petit Bourgeault. She was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1976.
Mrs. Malloy worked a few years at Nike Shoe in Saco and last worked 13 years at Roger’s Supa Dolla in Sanford. She was an active member of the Wolves Club in Sanford. She enjoyed her personal computer, being outdoors and NASCAR racing.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Malloy of Biddeford; her sons, Steven Malloy of Sanford, James Malloy of Wells and Carleton Young of Wells; her companion of 20 years,Lawrence Young of Sanford; her parents, of Saco; two brothers, Leo E. Bourgeualt and his wife, Kathie, of Saco, Roger P. Bourgeault and his wife, Jane, of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Lillian Camire and her husband, Steve, of Saco, Nancy Pyer and her husband, Roger, of Saco and Pearl Ouellette and her fiancé, Mario Veilleux, of Biddeford; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Lucille A. Roy
Lucille A. Roy, 94, of Old Orchard Beach, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Seal Rock Health Care in Saco after a long illness.
She was born May 31, 1916, in Sanford to Evariste and Aurore Ouellette Bergeron and was educated in Sanford schools.
On Nov. 28, 1940, she married Joseph A. Roy in St. Ignatius Church in Sanford. He died Sept. 4, 1993.
Mrs. Roy worked in Sanford area shoe shops and at Bruce Shoe Co. in Biddeford for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Robert Bergeron and one sister, Estelle Gagne.
Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Coreau of Old Orchard Beach and Jeanne St. Onge and her husband, Normand, of Biddeford; a brother, Richard T. Bergeron and his wife, Marie, of Sanford; five sisters, Therese L. Bergeron of Sanford, Gertrude I. Berard of Sanford, Sr. Claire Bergeron of Lowell, Mass., Sr. Bertha Bergeron of Waterville, and Rachel C. Belanger and her husband, Norman, of Sanford; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Ernest R. Therrien
Ernest R. Therrien, 82, of Agawam, Mass., died Wednesday, June 3, 2010, in Baystate Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Sanford to Ernest J. and Alda (Ricard) Therrien.
He earned a B.A. in economics and business from the University of Maine, Orono, and a master’s degree in economics from Calvin Coolidge College of Liberal Arts, Boston. He received a second master’s degree and pursued doctoral studies in economics at Fordham University in New York.
During his 25 years at St. Francis College in Biddeford (now the University of New England), he was a professor of economics and held several administrative positions, including acting president. He was active in civic and political organizations and served as city treasurer for Biddeford under the late Mayor Gilbert Boucher.
In 1974, Mr. Therrien joined the faculty at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Mass., as a professor in business and management studies. He taught as an adjunct professor at Western New England College, American International College and Westfield State College. He was appointed a member of the Massachusetts Board of Regents’ Task Force on Continuing Education.
For many years, he was a leader in the Massachusetts Community College Council, the union for faculty and professional staff. He was elected to the board of directors of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and National Education Association. He was elected or appointed to numerous state and national task forces and committees, including the Massachusetts Higher Education Leadership Council, NEA Northeast Leadership Planning Committee, and NEA Negotiations Team for a possible NEA-AFT merger. He was a longtime member of the Massachusetts and National Rehabilitation Associations, Industrial Relations Research Association and National Council for Higher Education.
Mr. Therrien received numerous awards and honors. He was the first recipient of the Raymond C. Lemieux Award for contributions to the teaching profession, to higher education and to the Massachusetts Community College Council. He was the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year at STCC for 1993-1994 and was given the Excellence Award of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development for 1995. He was recognized for his leadership role in “promoting excellence in teaching and learning” by the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Corice; a brother, Urban Therrien; and sisters Ida Barone, Rena Cunningham, Jeanne Nadeau and Patricia Roth.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Tetrault; a daughter, Patricia Boston and her husband, Dennis, of Biddeford; two grandsons; sisters Aline Schad and Theresa Facer; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert J. McNally
Robert James McNally, 84, of Old Orchard Beach, died Monday, May 31, 2010, after a brief stay at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1925, in Worcester, Mass. to Ethel (Barrows) and James McNally and lived in that area until 1941 when, at age 15, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served four years in World War II as a radio operator and gunner. While in the Army Air Corps, he completed his high school education in Florida and after the war went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering.
Mr. McNally was proud of his membership in Veterans of Underage Military Service (VUMS), his life membership in the VFW, Post 7997 and the American Legion. A member of the Society of Plastic Engineers, he once served as the organization’s national president and worked as a plant manager in various manufacturing firms in New Jersey and Massachusetts. After relocating to Maine, he was state-certified as a code enforcement officer and held that position in Old Orchard Beach, Mechanic Falls and Gray, where he was instrumental in identifying the McKinn Superfund site and fought to secure clean water for affected residents.
That experience inspired Mr. McNally to study land use law, and he eventually taught Maine land use law at several area colleges and universities. As shown throughout his life, he was committed to civic engagement and public service. He had a deep interest in politics at all levels and devoted much time to causes and candidates in whom he believed. He volunteered at the polls in every election for many years and in 1986 ran for the state Senate.
He will always be remembered for many years of tireless effort promoting and expanding the Memorial Day parade in Old Orchard Beach. Yet his true passion was thoroughbred horse racing. He was a member of the Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association; he operated a public stable, trained and raced his own horses and traveled the race circuit from Maine to Florida for a number of years.
During his racing career, Mr. McNally won the Silver Dollar Handicap race at Scarborough Downs in 1962 and broke the all-time record for longest odds winner at Rockingham Park in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eileen Shea McNally; daughter Deborah and her husband, Bruce Fryer, of New Jersey; son Terrance and his wife, Erin, of Biddeford; daughter Sharon and her husband, Christian Ricco, of Wisconsin; son Timothy and his wife, Amanda Brandenburg, of Wisconsin; his sister, June Scarlata of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren and other extended family.

Theresa Tedeschi
Theresa Tedeschi, 84, of Biddeford, died Monday, May 31, 2001, at Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford.
She was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Biddeford, to Louis and Blanch (Faucher) Ste. Marie. She attended Biddeford schools.
On Nov. 19, 1945, she married Angelo Tedeschi in Long Island, N.Y. After 60 years of marriage, he died July 23, 2006.
Following a few years in high school, she left to work in local shoe shops to support her family. She returned to Biddeford Adult Education and received her GED in her 50s.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and a former member of the Rochambeau Club in Biddeford.
Mrs. Tedeschi was a wonderful cook and enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens and spending time with animals, especially cats. She was skilled at knitting, sewing and crocheting, and provided her family with many mittens and slippers through the years. She also enjoyed touring New England and Canada with her husband in their camper and also loved visiting her family all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Sheila; two sisters, Muriel Kunz and Jeanne Pepin; and her brother, Victor Ste. Marie.
Survivors include her son, Anthony Tedeschi and his wife, Judy Dianne, of Fountain, Fla.; two daughters, Joanne Striligas and her husband, Emmanuel, of Biddeford, and Sharon Hooper of Saco; two sisters, Rachel Boivin and her husband, Anthony, of Napa, Calif., and Marcella “Jenny” Lurvey of Westbrook; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Geraldine E. Carter
Geraldine E. Carter, 87, of Biddeford and formerly Sanford, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center.
She was born April 28, 1923, in Shapleigh to Lester and Ruth (Pike) Sanborn. She attended Shapleigh schools.
On April 17, 1949, she married Ernest L. Carter at Sanford’s First Baptist Church. After 48 years of marriage, he died Aug. 11, 1997.
Mrs. Carter was a devoted mother and wife to her family. In addition, she had a deep need to serve the community and volunteered at Sanford nursing homes and the Salvation Army.She enjoyed playing cards and shopping. Moreover, she loved spoiling her grandson and meeting and conversing with new people every day.
She was preceded in death by three children, Maria and Frances Carter and Sylvia Tillson; one grandson, Trevor Tillson; a brother, Howard Sanborn; and a sister, Phylis Burnell.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Hamel and her husband, Richard, of Biddeford; a sister, Hazel Goodwin and her husband, Roland, of Shapleigh; a brother, Charles Sanborn and his wife, Beverly, of Lebanon; and one grandson.

Monique C. Viger
Monique C. Viger, 76, of Biddeford and Lyman died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness.
She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Dixville, Quebec, to Edouard C. and Mederise Tanguay Viger and was educated in Canadian and Biddeford schools. She graduated from the former St. Joseph High School in 1952.
As a girl, Mrs. Viger worked at J.J. Newbury Co. in Biddeford.
On Aug. 13, 1955, she married Leopold R. “Paul” Viger in St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
Mrs. Viger worked for New England Telephone Co. for several years. She later worked part time for W.T. Grant Co. in Biddeford.
She was a den mother for Troop 308 and did volunteer work at York Manor. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and TOPS of Biddeford and Lyman.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Viger, in 1964, and two brothers, Hilarion “Larry” Leblanc and Charles Edward Leblanc.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years of Biddeford and Lyman; three sons, Michael C. Viger of Biddeford, Daniel P. Viger and his wife, Linda, of Biddeford and Edward J. Viger and his wife, Allison, of Biddeford; one daughter, Julie M. Viger and her companion, Keith Rocray, of Dayton; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren andseveral nieces and nephews.

Gustave A. Gagne
Gustave A. Gagne, 74, of Biddeford, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center.
He was born July 30, 1935, in Biddeford to Gustave J. and Beatrice (Perreault) Gagne. Mr. Gagne was educated locally and graduated from Biddeford High School.
He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War and had 82 jumps to his credit.
On Oct. 8, 1960, he married Reinette Gagne at St. Andre Church.
He was employed at Pepperell Manufacturing Co. for 10 years, Saco Tanning for 11 years and Pratt Whitney for 19 years. He retired in 1998.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, lobstering, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Gagne and a sister, Cecile Gagne.
Survivors include his wife, Reinette Gagne of Biddeford; a son, Robert A. Gagne and his wife, Jacqueline, of Saco; a brother, Richard Gagne and his wife, Judy, of Biddeford; five sisters, Doris Demers and her husband, Raymond, of Biddeford, Rita Fournier and her husband, Philip, of Orr’s Island, Irene Corriveau of Biddeford, Priscille Jackson of Biddeford and Linda Noble of Biddeford; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
