Couple face charges of filing false reports in OOB

A couple was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly filing a false report after telling police a man grabbed their son in front of an Old Orchard Beach campground.

Albert Clyde Huff III, 36, and Shelly Prescott, 31, were arrested at a campground in Dixfield after the York County District Attorney’s Office approved arrest warrants, according to police.

Huff and Prescott, whose last known address was on Ross Road in Saco, each was charged with filing a false public report, unsworn falsification and violation of bail conditions.

Filing a false public report and unsworn falsification are Class D crimes punishable by one to three years in jail. Violation of bail conditions is a Class E crime punishable by up to one year in jail.

Huff and Prescott told police last month they were sitting on a picnic table at Pine Grove Cabins and Vacancy Pub on Ocean Park Road on June 22 when a man picked up their 3-year-old son and started to run away. They described the man to police, who arrested Eric Auger of Saco a short time later, according to police.

Auger spent three weeks in jail before the district attorney’s office dismissed charges against him. Old Orchard Beach Deputy Police Chief Keith Babin earlier this month said information gathered during the investigation showed Auger was in the area but did not pick up or move the child. Auger said a man confronted him in the area of the cabins but did not know why.
