Obituaries
Alice M. Hill, 96, of Ocean Park, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Seal Rock Health Care in Saco.
She was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Somerville, Mass., to Joseph and Carolina Deuchler Hemmerlin. She was a graduate of Somerville High School.
On Sept. 18, 1938, she married Norman H. Hill.
She was employed as a legal secretary for several law firms in Boston and retired in 1985. She moved to Maine in 1987.
Mrs. Hill was a member of the Seacoasters and the Toilers in Ocean Park. She enjoyed walking her dog on the beach.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Saco.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in January 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Hughes and her husband, Arthur, of Bowdoinham and Norma Constantino and her husband, Allen, of Ocean Park; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
Carmel Sylvain
Carmel Sylvain, 84, of Saco, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1926, in St. Francois, New Brunswick, Canada, to Paul and Julie Bouchard Sylvain. He was educated in Canada.
In June 1946 he married Gisele Fecteau in St. Jean de la Lande, Quebec, Canada. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1972.
Mr. Sylvain worked as a lumberjack in the Maine woods for more than 35 years, and moved to this area in 1966. He was employed in area factories until he retired in 1972.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Good Shepherd Parish. He enjoyed woodworking and ice hockey.
Survivors include three sons, Cleo Sylvain of Palm Beach, Fla., Maurille “Moe” Sylvain and his wife, Marianne, of Dayton and Gary Sylvain and his wife, Pat, of Biddeford; two daughters, Huguette Bergeron and her husband, Michael, of Biddeford and Francine Bergeron and her husband, Roger, of Old Orchard Beach; one brother, Sylvio Sylvain and his wife, Micheline, of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Armande Fecteau of Biddeford; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel.
