Michael J. Morrow

 

Michael J. Morrow, 49, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born July 3, 1961, in Eliot to William and Esther (Worster) Morrow. He graduated from Marshwood High School in 1980 and attended the University of Maine at Orono.

He married Patricia A. Moran in York at Mount Agamenticus.

Mr. Morrow worked with Boise-Cascade in Biddeford and the former Wood Structures for more than 15 years. Prior to that he worked various construction and finish carpentry jobs in Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach.

An avid sports enthusiast, he played high school basketball and was captain of the high school football team. He volunteered coaching and helping the Saco Little League as a board member and coach for Saco Youth Football and coached Saco Parks and Recreation basketball.

He loved the outdoors and involving his family in many hiking, biking and kayaking trips across Maine. He was a skilled woodworker and cabinetmaker and furnished not only his home but shared his Shaker-style furniture with friends and family. Family was the core of his life and spending time with them made his life timeless.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Morrow.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Morrow of Saco; his mother, Esther Morrow of Somersworth, N.H.; his son, Alexander Morrow of Surfside Beach, Calif.; his stepson, Joshua Hudak of Saco; his stepdaughter, Virginia Hudak of Saco; his brother, Mark Morrow and his wife, Sandie, of Berwick; two sisters, Nancy Antunes and her husband, Jordan, of Waltham, Mass., and Julie Caito and her husband, Paul, of Coto de Caza, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Adelbert Michaud

 

Adelbert Michaud, 88, of Saco died Friday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Evergreen Manor in Saco.

He was born in Notre Dame du Lac, Quebec, Canada, to Joseph and Alina Morin Michaud and educated in Notre Dame du Lac schools.

Mr. Michaud worked several years on the family farm and later worked as a lumberjack in the Ontario and Maine woods.

On June 23, 1948, he married Beatrice I. Morneau in St. Eusebe Church in St. Eusebe, Quebec. She died Sept. 1, 2000.

He moved to the local area in 1960, where he worked 21 years at Saco Tanning Corp. in Saco. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Michaud was an active member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors are his son, George L. Michaud and his wife, Elaine, of Biddeford; one brother, Rene Michaud and his wife, Irene, of Rivierre du Loup, Quebec; two sisters, Rolande Michaud of Squatec, Quebec, and Carmen Roy and her husband, Albert, of Squatec, Quebec; one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Stella G. Le Pelletier

 

Stella G. Le Pelletier died Aug. 24, 2010, at her home from complications of advanced Parkinsonism.

 She was born Sept. 19, probably in 1922, in Ste. Angele, Quebec, to J. Paul and Alphonsine (Brassard) Gagne.

 She attended the local school operated by the Sisters of the Holy Rosary and took extra classes in English and music. After graduation she attended a business school in Quebec City where she learned accounting and shorthand in both French and English.

During World War II she enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps, where she worked in the Department of Medical Records. After discharge in 1946 she moved to Old Orchard Beach, where she met and married Jerome A. Le Pelletier. They were married 64 years.

By 1948 she had become an American citizen and worked for two years as a legal secretary for Municipal Judge, Wesley O. Mewer. In 1950 she transferred to Mack Trucks in Portland as bookkeeper and accountant. She remained there until 1956.

She then began work with her husband in his motel business as bookkeeper and they were partners in other investments. One of these included restoration of the Robert Southgate properties in Scarborough, a building built in 1805.

In 1968 she decided to return to school and entered the University of Southern Maine to study French literature and European history. She had a near-photographic memory and graduated in 1972 “with highest distinction.” In 1980 she returned to the university to receive a master’s degree in classroom teaching.

Mrs. Le Pelletier also was a member of several organizations, including the local art association, Old Orchard Beach and the Maine historical societies and Old Orchard Women’s Association. She was a member of the board of trustees of Edith Belle Libby Memorial Library in Old Orchard Beach and was the group’s recording secretary for several years.

She and her husband spent many winters in Florida until health concerns made travel difficult. She then intensified her study of early 19th century musical figures, including Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt.

Survivors include her husband of Old Orchard Beach and three sisters, Fern Rhodes of North Carolina, and Pauline Smith and Marie-Paule Baker of Nashua, N.H.

Theresa Roberts

 

Theresa Roberts, 84, of Biddeford and formerly of Saco, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.

She was born Feb. 19, 1926, in Biddeford to Philippe and Rose Eva Dansereau Martin. She was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker who loved raising her family. Her hobbies included knitting and quilting.

She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, Good Shepherd Parish, in Saco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Stanley Roberts, on Dec. 14, 1993; and two sisters,   Annette Giroux and Irene Martin.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur Roberts and his wife, Mary Lou, of Laguey, Mo., and Sumner Robert and his wife, Leslie, of Kennebunk; four daughters, Priscilla Charette and her husband, Roger, of Niceville, Fla., Linda Roberts of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Nancy Hallczuk and her husband, Raynald, of Arundel and Elaine Maher of Jackson Springs, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Pamela J. Smith

 

Pamela J. Smith, 55, of Biddeford, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough following a long illness.

She was born June 14, 1955, in Biddeford to Neal and Doris (Michaud) Belanger. She was educated locally, graduated from Biddeford High School and later received an associate degree from Andover Business College.

Mrs. Smith worked for her father’s contracting business as the bookkeeper. In 1973, at 18, she owned and operated Foss Street Cafe, becoming the first female tavern owner in the state.

On July 1, 1983, she married Carl Smith at St. Joseph Church.

Mrs. Smith was later employed at the former St. Andre Federal Credit Union for nine years as a teller and loan officer and for 12 years at Southern Maine Medical Center in the Accounts Receivable Department until she retired two months ago because of illness. She was associated with VanTassel and Saco River auctions since 1971.

She volunteered with United Way and Southern Maine Medical Center’s Relay For Life.  She enjoyed dancing, fishing and loved animals, especially her Egyptian Sphinx cat.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Belanger, and sister, Patricia Bertrand.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Carl Smith of Biddeford; three stepsons, Carl Smith Jr. of Portland, Patrick Smith of Biddeford and William Smith and his wife, Lorraine, of Sanford; one stepdaughter, Vicki Renee Smith of Old Orchard Beach; three step-grandsons and three step-great-grandsons; three brothers, James Belanger and his wife, Nancy, of Limington, Donald Belanger of Lyman and Reynold Belanger and his wife, Sara, of Lyman; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Jenney A. Brackett

 

Jenney A. Brackett, 45, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and formerly of Saco, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 17, 1965, in Biddeford to Bernard and Janet Hanning Brackett. She was educated in Saco schools.

Ms. Brackett was a fun-loving and intelligent woman with a great sense of humor. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing with others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at family functions.

She was preceded in death Feb. 22, 2008, by her son, Nathan Brackett; her mother, Janet, in 2003; and her father, Bernard, in 1983.

Survivors include three sisters, Karen Brackett of Scarborough, Barbara Poitras of Saco and Diana Brackett of Saco; three brothers, John Brackett of Florida, James Brackett of Biddeford and Dennis Brackett of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Marie R. Pare

 

Marie R. Pare, 82, of Saco, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

 She was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Biddeford to the late Alexandre and Laura (Neault) Labrecque.

 She attended St. Andre High School and graduated in 1946 as class valedictorian.

On June 19, 1948, she married Arthur R. Pare at St. Andre Church in Biddeford. They were parishioners of St. Andre Church.

Mrs. Pare’s focus in life was her family, which gave her much pride and joy. During family gatherings and celebrations she collected photos and memories to create computer slideshows. She was an accomplished cook and loved to watch the Boston Red Sox.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Labrecque.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Arthur R. Pare of Saco; two sons, John Pare and his wife, Connie, of The Villages, Fla., and Robert Pare and his wife, Donna, of Stratham, N.H.; one daughter, Diane Vassill and her husband, George, of Biddeford; one brother, Maurice Labrecque of Saco; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph P. Beal

 

Joseph P. Beal, 70, of Biddeford, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at his home following a long illness.

He was born May 12, 1940, in Springvale, to Perley and Margie (Grant) Beal. He moved to this area as a child, was educated in Biddeford schools and attended Biddeford High School.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1957 to 1965.

On Oct. 10, 1959, he married Jeanne Parenteau at St. Andre Church.

Mr. Beal was a member of the Biddeford Police Department from 1963 until 1988 and retired as captain. After retirement, he continued to work in security at Southern Maine Medical Center from 1992 to 1998 and served on the Biddeford Police Commission from 1990 to 1998.

Mr. Beal was a member of the former St. Mary Church of the Good Shepherd Parish. He was an avid outdoorsman in every season and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping and spending time at his camp on East Grand Lake in Danforth.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jeanne Beal of Biddeford; two daughters, Catherine Lacourse and her husband, Pierre, of Lyman, and Diane Verville of Biddeford; one son, James Beal of Biddeford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Canfield of Biddeford and Beverly Emory of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

Norman J. St. Pierre

 

Norman J. St. Pierre, 88, of Scarborough, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, surrounded by his family at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after an illness with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born in Caribou to Herbert and Azelia Martin St. Peter. He graduated from Lubec High School in 1939.

Mr. St. Pierre served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a member of the “Mighty Eighth” and was a waist gunner in a B17 Flying Fortress. He completed 25 missions over Germany.

On his 25th mission he was shot down in the English Channel, near Guernsey Island on New Year’s Eve. He was captured and was a prisoner of war for a year and a half in Stalag 17B.

He was awarded many military honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. 

On June 11, 1946, he married Mary “Agnes” Chaisson at St. Joseph Church in Portland.

He was employed by Sears Roebuck and retired in 1975 after 25 years. He and his wife owned and operated Oceanville Cottages in Pine Point from 1967 to early 1980s. 

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Elaine St. Pierre-Jenkins in 1992; and a son, Norman “Joe” St. Pierre in 1965.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Agnes St. Pierre of Scarborough; five daughters, Suzanne Bennoch and her husband, Stephen, of Ellsworth, Judith Speed and her husband, Thomas, of Mystic, Conn., Jane St. Pierre and her husband, Wayne Smith, of Scarborough, Mary Cattadoris and her husband, Hank, of Scarborough and Cathryn Bissonnette and her husband, David, of Saco; two sons, Thomas Joseph St. Pierre and his wife, Trisha, of Venice, Fla., and Robert Joseph St. Pierre and his wife, Sharon, of Saco; a sister, Lorraine Kelbey of South Portland; a brother, Richard St. Pierre and his wife, Christine, of Harrison; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
