Paul R. Cartier

 

Paul R. Cartier, 64, of Biddeford, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at his residence in Biddeford.

He was born June 14, 1946, in Lawrence, Mass., to Robert and Lorraine St. Ours Cartier and moved to Biddeford as a child.

He married J. Mary Grant on Sept. 10, 1968.

Mr. Cartier had a great sense of humor and was an animal lover. He had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Cartier of Biddeford; his wife of 42 years, J. Mary Cartier of Biddeford; three daughters, Cheri Cartier, Buffy Carter and Julie Cartier; one son, Jody Cartier; four grandchildren; one brother, Richard Cartier; and several nieces and nephews.

Cecile C. Kenney

 

Cecile C. Kenney, 68, of Biddeford, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Southridge Living Center following a short illness.

 She was born April 7, 1942, in Biddeford to Roland and Antoinette (Gadbois) Boisse. She attended local schools before leaving to support her family. She received her diploma from Biddeford High School in 1994.

On June 6, 1986, she married William G. Kenney in Biddeford.

Mrs. Kenney last worked as a kitchen aide at St. Andre Healthcare in Biddeford for several years. She also worked for more than 20 years at shoe shops in southern New Hampshire.

Mrs. Kenney enjoyed knitting, watching her “stories” on television and was an exceptional cook. She loved the outdoors and often made trips to the mountains, apple picking in many area orchards and loved watching the birds outside her home and neighborhood. She especially enjoyed her special time playing with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, William G. Kenney of Biddeford; one son, Michael Blanchette and his fiancée, Brandy Walsh, of Lebanon; two daughters, Susan Tsoukalas and her fiancé, Richard Fritz, of Porter and Tina Blanchette of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Roland Boisse and his wife, Carol, of Saco, Roger Boisse and his wife, Joan, of Dover, N.H., and Fernand Boisse and his wife, Jennie, of Bristol, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Mary Jane Lake

 

Mary Jane Lake, 95, of Old Orchard Beach, died Friday, Oct 8, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Dayton to Byron and Maggie Muzelli Hill.

Mrs. Lake grew up in Dayton. She journeyed to Florida for a short time in the 1920s, but returned to Maine when she married Donald Lake in 1940.

When her husband became ill, she took a job at Wortman’s 5 & 10 in Old Orchard Beach where she worked for 30 years and became well known by many children in town as the “penny candy” lady.

She loved painting, but was especially known for her poetry, which was published for years in the Biddeford Journal.  She saw beauty in every sunrise, sunset, birds and nature.

Following the death of her husband in 1981, Mrs. Lake lived for many years as a single woman and enjoyed her home, her cats and her friends.

Her favorite pastime was playing Scrabble. Even when her eyesight was failing, she continued to be a worthy and unbeatable opponent. She loved taking drives in the country, eating ice cream and seafood.   She played the harmonica like a pro and never stopped dancing. Her positive attitude, her pride in her appearance, her sense of humor and her appreciation for life were an inspiration to all of those who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Lake,  five brothers and a sister. 

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Lake.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today at Laurel Hill Cemetery Chapel in Saco.  Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home. 

 

David F. Cummer

 

David F. Cummer, 61, of Biddeford, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born Jan. 31, 1949, in Boston to Frederick H. Jr. and Joan Whitaker Cummer.

He graduated from Dover High School in Dover, Mass., in 1967, attended Boston University and later graduated from Lewiston Trade School.

Mr. Cummer was employed by Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick as a toolmaker for 12 years and retired in 1992.

His hobby and life’s work was customizing antique cars and trucks. Several of his restored cars were featured in national car collector magazines. He also wrote articles on how to customize cars for Street Rodder Magazine and Rod & Custom Magazine.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Christine “Collette” Cummer of Biddeford; one brother, Daniel Cummer and his wife, Dianne, of Dover, Mass.; two sisters, Ann Tolman of Hillsborough, N.H., and Alice Briggs and her husband, Charles, of Peterborough, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Margaret P. Clark

 

Margaret P. Clark, 75, of Biddeford, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Biddeford to William and Marie-Ange Goudreau Berube.

She was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mrs. Clark married her husband, Walter H. Clark, on May 3, 1958, at St. Margaret Church in Old Orchard Beach. 

She was employed by Adams Street Pub and Town House Pub as a bar manager for 45 years and retired in 2005. She was known as “Ma” to many. She had a tough exterior but was fair to all.

Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed puzzles, computer games, playing cards, Sunday drives and especially talking and visiting with her friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, on Sept. 9, 1997; one brother, Joseph Berube; and two sisters, Lorette Berube and Claire Couture.

Survivors include her children, Kevin Berube and his wife, Helene, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Marie Clark-Colman and her husband, Robert, of Saco, Lynn Clark of Old Orchard Beach, Denise (Clark) Ruel of Biddeford; three stepchildren Margie Ross and her partner, Clayton McClusky, of Saco, Patricia Tellier and her husband, Lionel, of Newfield and Tony Clark of Hollis; one brother, Donald Berube and his wife, Barbara, of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Jacqueline Mariello and her husband, Nicholas, of Biddeford and Joanne Brewer of Biddeford; 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Alfred F. Morin

 

Alfred F. Morin, 91, a longtime resident of Saco and more recently of the Atria in Kennebunk, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, of natural causes at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born June 25, 1919, in Biddeford to Alfred and Beatrice Graffam Morin.

Mr. Morin served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a lieutenant bombardier navigator and flew 65 missions over France, Germany and Normandy.

He was employed as a master electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for more than 30 years and retired in 1981.

Mr. Morin was a well-read man of many talents. He enjoyed playing classical piano, was a master craftsman, loved gardening and was known for having multiple projects going at any given time.    

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Annette Irene Lacroix Morin; by one son, Ronald Morin; and seven siblings.

Survivors include five children, Dennis Morin, Michael Morin, Janet Perreault, Scott Morin and Rebecca Butler; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Christopher Harmon

 

Christopher Harmon, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Biddeford, died in Colorado Springs Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010.

He was born March 20, 1984 in Biddeford to Michael and Darlene Pare Harmon and was educated locally.

As a young boy he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping. He also loved animals and raised and bred lizards.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Charity Harmon, in 1986.

Survivors include his son, Brandon Morris of Saco; his father and stepmother, Michael and Rachel Harmon of Biddeford; his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Scott Masteller of Dayton; four brothers, Brad Thompson of Biddeford, Cameron Masteller, currently serving with the U.S. Navy, and Justin and Tyler Masteller, both of Dayton; one stepsister, Cheryl Sarto of Lyman; one stepbrother, Brian Harmon of Biddeford; his maternal grandmother Doris Pare of Saco; his paternal grandfather Robert Pare and his wife, Angela, of Solon; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
