Harold O’Brien

 

Harold “Harry” O’Brien, 74, of Arundel, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Portland, the seventh of 16 children born to Ralph and Lucy (Newcomb) O’Brien. He attended Portland schools.

He married Carmen H. Precourt on Aug. 31, 1996.

Mr. O’Brien last worked with Praxair, formerly Sermatech, in Biddeford, for more than 14 years as a prep technician. He also worked as a machinist with the former Saco Defense for more than 21 years, Simplex in North Berwick for several years and at Biddeford schools and Saco Tanning as a young man.

Mr. O’Brien loved bowling and spent most of his time knocking down candlepins at Vacationland in Saco. An avid animal lover, he spent time collecting donations for the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk. He also enjoyed tending to his flower garden and watching black and white movies and Westerns on television. He especially cherished his time spent going out to eat with his wife and time with his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Joan (Nicholas) O’Brien; two grandsons and nine brothers and sisters.

Mr. O’Brien is survived by his wife of more than 14 years, Carmen H. O’Brien, of Arundel; two sons, Steven O’Brien and his wife, Venus, of Arundel and Dale O’Brien of Biddeford; two daughters, Carol Demeule and her husband, Paul, of Biddeford and Joy-Lynn Presby of Biddeford; three brothers, Ralph O’Brien Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Westbrook, Richard O’Brien and his wife, Brenda, of Buxton and Jimmy O’Brien and his wife, Donna, of Westbrook; three sisters, Donna Ciriello of Portland, Bonnie Cabading and her husband, Ernie, of Standish and Marion Kent of Portland; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Rachel E. Quinn

 

Rachel E. Quinn, 60, originally of Biddeford, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Seal Rock Health Care Facility in Saco following a long illness.

She was born Sept. 24, 1950, to Laurent E. and Dora Y. (Tousignant) Nadeau. She was educated in Biddeford parochial schools and graduated from the former St. Louis High School in Biddeford.

In 1970 she married her high school sweetheart, Michael Quinn of Old Orchard Beach. Together they raised two children.

Mrs. Quinn worked for many years at Digital Equipment Corp. in Massachusetts before moving back to Maine. During her years in Maine she spent several years on Square Pond in Shapleigh and Acton. She was a loving and caring person who especially enjoyed time with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Brian, in 1998.

Survivors include her husband; her daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Tom Hamil, of Hopkinton, Mass.; a brother, Normand L. Nadeau and his wife, Jeannette, of Kattskill Bay, N.Y.; two sisters, Joan Nadeau of Peabody, Mass., and Claire Brannigan and her husband, Joseph, of Portland; two grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Arrangements were by Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home.

 

David J. Lavigne

 

David J. Lavigne, 54 of Saco, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born Oct. 1, 1956, in Biddeford to Paul and Estelle Lavigne. He was educated in Saco schools and employed for many years by Xuron Tools in Saco.

Mr. Lavigne was an avid horseshoe player, liked to go camping and ride four-wheelers,and especially loved to spend time with friends and family.

Survivors include his life partner, Tina Grover of Saco; his children, Jeremy Lavigne of Biddeford, Ryan Lavigne of Saco and Heather Lavigne of Biddeford; four brothers, Richard Lavigne and his wife, Sundie, of Limington, Michael Lavigne and his wife, Debbie, of Biddeford, Timmy Lavigne and his wife, Barbara, of Lyman and Danny Lavigne and his wife, Jennifer, of New Hampshire; two sisters, Lorraine Andrews and her husband, Rick, of Florida and Jane Lavoie and her husband, Dave, of Arizona; his grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Irene C. Charbin

 

Irene C. Charbin, 83, of Biddeford, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born July 14, 1927, in Somersworth, N.H., to Eugene and Mary Jane (Bouchard) Labrecque.

Mrs. Charbin moved to Connecticut in 1948 and returned to Biddeford in 1970. She was employed as a CNA for several years in both private nursing care and nursing homes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Charbin, in 1989 and her sister, Anita Belanger, in 2009.

Survivors include her son, Edward Rogalski, and his wife, Linda, of Saco; her brother, Leo Labrecque, and his wife, Nancy, of Saco; her brother in-law, Lionel P. Belanger, of Waterboro; one granddaughter, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Michael T. Goulet

 

Michael T. Goulet, 21, of Saco died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 30, 1989, in Portland to Bradley J. and Linda A. LeBlanc Goulet. He was educated in Saco schools, graduated from Thornton Academy in 2007 and was attending Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.

Mr. Goulet worked summers at Hannaford Bros. in Saco and Huot’s Restaurant in Camp Ellis and recently served an internship at Sweetser Home in Saco. He was a member of the Standish Knights of Columbus and served on various religious ministries at Saint Joseph’s College. He had volunteered for several years with Saco Knights of Columbus and served Thanksgiving dinners at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall. He enjoyed fishing, writing and caring for elderly family members.

Survivors include his father, Bradley J. Goulet and his fiancée, Tina Richardson, of Saco; his mother, Linda A. LeBlanc of Saco; two sisters, Danielle M. Goulet and her husband, Richard Williams, of Old Orchard Beach and Candace R. Laliberte and her husband, John, of Saco; his paternal grandparents, Raynald and Jacqueline Goulet of Biddeford; and two nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Jeremie E. Sirois

 

Jeremie E. Sirois, 79, of Biddeford, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at the Barron Center in Portland following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 8, 1931, in St. Anne, New Brunswick, Canada, to Edmond and Amanda (Cote) Sirois. He moved to Biddeford with his family as a teenager and attended the former St. Louis High School. 

Mr. Sirois was employed more than 20 years as a welder by General Electric Co. and then five years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1988 due to illness. In retirement he was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Biddeford.

He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Luke E. Hart Council. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, dancing, skiing, playing pool with his son and following his grandsons in their sports.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel E. (Boisvert) Sirois on Dec. 27, 1995, and his brother, Joel Sirois.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly Lavoie-Sirois of Biddeford, whom he married April 12, 1997, in South Portland; one son, Rick Sirois and his wife, Susan, of Saco; two stepchildren, Michael Lavoie of Saco and Tamra Lavoie of Pawtucket, R.I.; one sister, Rita Barr of Windham; two grandsons, 1 step-grandson, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Aline I. Provencher

 

Aline I. Provencher, 90, of Biddeford died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a short illness.

 She was born June 4, 1920, in Biddeford to Alfred and Odina St. Louis Moulin and was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mrs. Provencher worked six years at  York Manufacturing Co. in Saco. She along with her husband owned and operated Provencher Oil Co. in Biddeford for 35 years and retired in 1989.

She was a very active member of St. Andre Church in Biddeford, St. Andre Group Home’s auxiliary in  Biddeford, Biddeford Senior Citizens and Saco Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed traveling, doing home crafts, knitting, quilting and playing cards with her family and friends.

Her husband of 49 years, Dennis G. Provencher, died on July 22, 1989.

Survivors include her two sons, Roger Provencher and his wife, Beverly, of Saco and Richard Provencher of Biddeford; one brother, Leo Paul Moulin of Biddeford; two sisters, Germaine Landry of Biddeford and Lucille Lafortune of Biddeford; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Eleanor C. Paye  

 

Eleanor C. Paye, 5, of Saco, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Eleanor was born on Jan. 10, 2005, in Portland to David Paye and Bethany Savage.

She was a student at Fairfield School in Mrs. Pendleton’s room. She also was a student for four years at Steppin Out Dance Studio in Saco and loved to dance.

She loved to write and recently learned to write her name, which gave her a great sense of pride. She enjoyed her cats, Winnie and Beezus, watching the Red Sox and was a big fan of David Ortiz. She also loved music, especially the Beatles.

She had a great friendship and relationship with her brother, David K. Paye.  In addition to her brother, she is survived by her parents, David Paye and Bethany Savage; her maternal grandparents, Kevin and Kathryn Savage of Saco; her paternal grandparents, David B. and Donna Paye of Farmington; her great-grandmother Mary Savage; her great-grandfather Donald Santini; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
