Thomas E. Reed
Thomas E. Reed, 70, of Saco, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born Dec. 21, 1939, in Gorham to Thomas A. and Theodora Loignon Reed. He graduated from Biddeford High School in 1960.
Mr. Reed was a meat cutter at First National Supermarket for 15 years and later worked at Hannaford for 25 years. He retired in 2005.
He enjoyed his flower and vegetable garden, making maple syrup and clamming. He was an avid sports fan who followed New York Yankee baseball and Buffalo Bills football.
Mr. Reed was a parishioner of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco.
He was predeceased by his son, David “Oscar” Reed, on Oct. 26, 2009, and his brother Robert.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lucille Houde Reed of Saco; one daughter, Donna Reed Gordon and her husband, Christian, of Biddeford; one sister, Barbara Roberge of Greenland, N.H.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
Roland A. Laverriere
Roland A. Laverriere, 81, of Biddeford, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a long illness.
He was born March 11, 1929, in Central Falls, R.I., to Odilon and Lodia Binette Laverriere and was educated in Biddeford schools.
Mr. Laverriere served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Nov. 25, 1954, he married Laurette Delage at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
He owned and operated Roland’s Auto Body Repair on Green Street in Biddeford for 45 years and retired in 1994.
He was a life member and fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of Biddeford Amvets, a member of the VFW, American Legion, St. Louis Alumni Association and St. Jean Baptiste d’Amerique. He enjoyed old cars, traveling, doing puzzles and collecting coins.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years of Biddeford; three sons, Peter J. Laverriere and his wife, Diane, of Biddeford, Brian R. Laverriere and his wife, Linda, of Biddeford and David R. Laverriere and his wife, Sandy, of Arundel; one daughter, Karen A. Hersom of Saco; two brothers, Raymond Laverriere of Ocean Park and Leo Laverriere and his wife, Pauline, of Biddeford; and two sisters, Paulette Caron of Shapleigh and Priscille Walton of Biddeford; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
Helena Kossen
Helena Kossen, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at York Manor Residential Care Facility.
She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Amsterdam, Holland. She came to America in June 1956 and lived in New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Florida, then back to New Hampshire before moving to Maine almost seven years ago.
Survivors are her daughter, Anja Roers, and her daughter, Kristin, of Biddeford.
Norman E. Pothier
Norman E. Pothier, 65, of Biddeford, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief illness with cancer.
He was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Biddeford to Emile and Emma Piette Pothier. He was educated in Saco schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1964.
On July 4, 1970, he married Dale Cote at St. Mary Church in Biddeford.
Mr. Pothier worked a couple of years at Maremont Corp. in Saco. He also worked as a special police officer in Old Orchard Beach before working 12 years as a Saco police officer. He last worked 18 years with Wood Structures in Biddeford and Saco, and retired in 1998 due to ill health.
He was a member of the Biddeford Eagles and was treasurer for the past 10 years. He enjoyed local and professional sports.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years of Biddeford; two daughters, Tammie Isner of Biddeford and Joey Hunter and her husband, John, of Manchester, Conn.; one brother, Robert Pothier and his wife, Dana, of Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Lucille Jamieson and her husband, Earl, of Saco; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Linda T. Binette
Linda, T. Binette, 56, of Arundel, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 1 in Arundel.
She was born June 10, 1954, in Biddeford to Albert J. and Theresa (Nicholas) Gadbois. She was educated at St. Joseph School and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1972.
She had been employed at Al’s Greenhouse in both Biddeford and Arundel and was currently employed for more than 20 years at Hannaford Bros. in Biddeford in the produce department.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church. She loved to sing and was a devout member of the choir for many years. She also loved her job and could often be heard singing happily as she worked.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Metayer, in 1982 and her mother, Theresa Gadbois, in 1998. She had been married to Raoul Binette.
Survivors include her son, Christopher Binette, and his partner, Whitney Lamb, of Biddeford; her father, Albert Gadbois and her stepmother, Priscilla, of Kennebunk; four brothers, Jack White and his wife, Carolyn, of Saco, Gene White and his wife, Carol, of Hampton, N.H., George Gadbois and his wife, Diane, of South Portland, Thomas Gadbois and his wife, Evangalyn, of Alfred; one sister, Nancy de la Rosa of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her extended family, including the Lamb family, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kenneth A. Ludden
Kenneth A. Ludden, 90, of Biddeford, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 20, 1920, in Farmington to Manderville and Bertha Adams Ludden and educated in Groton, Mass., schools.
Mr. Ludden served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked more than 30 years for the Portland School Department. In retirement he worked as a handyman.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and was an active member of the Sanford Veterans Center. He enjoyed harness racing and his cats.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Becker Ludden, in 1997, and his sister, Gladys Davis.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene Bryce and his wife, Beckie, of Santa Barbara, Calif., John Bryce and his wife, Geraldine, of Blytheville, Ark., Kenneth Bryce and his wife, Anita, of Renton, Wash., and Martin Bryce of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Sally Stevens of Los Angeles, Calif.; two nieces, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Leo R. Blanchette
Leo R. Blanchette, 78, of Biddeford, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1932, in Leominster, Mass., to William and Cecile (Couture) Blanchette. He attended St. Andre School and was a 1951 graduate of St. Louis High School. He went on to be a graduate apprentice at Saco Lowell Shops.
On Sept. 26, 1959, he married Jocelyn Beaudoin at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Mr. Blanchette served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He went on to work at Saco Lowell, Maremont Corp. and Saco Defense for 37 years and retired in 1989.
Mr. Blanchette was a member of the St. Louis Alumni Association and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Old Orchard Beach Country Club for many years. Other hobbies included gardening, reading and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jocelyn, of Biddeford; a daughter, Odelle Loignon and her husband, Anthony, of Biddeford; sons Marc Blanchette and his wife, Laura, of Biddeford and David Blanchette and his wife, Angela, of South Portland; a brother, Ralph Blanchette, of Londonderry, N.H.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
