Limerick woman dies after Dayton crash

A Limerick woman was killed Nov. 30 in a Dayton car accident.

Sandra Lambert, 43, died following a three-car accident at 10 a.m. at the intersection of routes 5 and 35 in front of D and H Convenience Store.

Lambert was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero east on Route 5 when she was struck by a 2003 Dodge 1500 pick-up truck driven by 25-year-old Jeffery Victor Makela of Standish, according to police. A preliminary investigation indicated Makela failed to stop at a stop sign, according to police.

The impact with Makela’s truck forced Lambert’s car into a dump truck waiting to turn onto Route 35, according to police. The dump truck is owned by Thyng Paving of Lyman and was operated by Richard Cooper Jr. of Dixmont.

Cindy Kamszik, 36, of Buxton, a passenger in Lambert’s car, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Makela was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

Rescue crews from Goodwins Mills, Waterboro and Biddeford were called to the scene with extradition equipment. The York County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident with assistance from the Maine State Police Mapping Unit.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit is investigating possible safety violations of the dump truck. Investigators do not believe possible violations contributed to the crash, according to police.

Rochelo said board members will fill in at the Main Street office until a replacement is hired.

Police still looking for missing Saco man

Saco police continue to look for a man last seen running into the woods behind his house.

Christopher Noonan, 26, was last seen Nov. 21 following an argument with his wife at their home on Jenkins Road. The Maine Warden Service conducted an extensive search of the Jenkins Road and Saco Heath area.

The warden’s service search was called off last week after investigators received a tip Noonan was with a friend in the Sanford area.

Saco Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland said the department has followed up on several leads but has been unable to verify Noonan’s whereabouts.

“We feel confident he is alive,” Holland said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saco police at 284-4535.

OOB man in court on manslaughter charge

An Old Orchard Beach man charged with manslaughter after a July 11 accident in Saco pleaded not guilty Friday to the charge in York County Superior Court in Alfred.

Walter J. Fleury, 67, made no comment besides entering his plea before Justice G. Arthur Brennan. He is represented by Portland attorney Amanda Doherty and remains free on bail.

Fleury is accused of striking Constance “Connie” Orendorf, 74, as she attempted to cross Route 1 at around 9:40 a.m. Orendorf was on her way to church when she was struck by the van. Police said Fleury failed a field sobriety test, possibly because of medications he was taking.

Attorneys were given 45 days to file motions in the case.

Orendorf had recently moved to Saco from Albuquerque, N.M., to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was active at Trinity Episcopal Church and sang with the Voices in Harmony Choir. She never missed a performance at Thornton Academy, her family said in July.

OOB man arrested after assault at party

An Old Orchard Beach man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly smashing a wooden chair over a woman’s head.

Nicholas Osgood, 27, of Saco Avenue, was arrested at a motel in Scarborough after allegedly assaulting 18-year-old Kaitlyn Rogers during a Dec. 6 party, said Deputy Police Chief Keith Babin.

Babin said officers who responded to a report of a fight in unit 301 of 29 Saco Ave. at 1:49 a.m. found Rogers covered in blood. Rogers was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford for treatment of a laceration to her head and a possible broken arm.

Babin said Rogers and her boyfriend were invited to a party in Osgood’s apartment. After she was hit with a chair and police were called, several people fled the scene, he said. Osgood was later found at the Scarborough motel and brought back to the Old Orchard Beach Police Department for questioning.

Osgood was transported to York County Jail after he was unable to post $5,000 bail. Babin said his criminal history includes operating under the influence, theft, burglary and violation of conditions of release.

Babin said police continue to investigate the incident and charges against other people are possible. Anyone with information about the assault should call detective Sgt. David Hemingway at 934-4911.
