Roland Charland

 

Roland Charland, 86, of Biddeford, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a long illness.

He was born May 5, 1924, in Biddeford to Alphonse and Imelda Faucher Charland. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from the former St. Louis High School in 1943.

Mr. Charland served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 8, 1947, he married Ruby Berube at St. Mary Church in Biddeford. She died April 8, 1971.

On May 29, 1976, he married Marguerite T. Armstrong Simard at St. Andre Church in Biddeford.

Mr. Roland worked in area machine shops for more than 15 years, five years with Grondin Supply Co. in Biddeford and 19 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of St. Jean Baptiste de Bienfaisance in Biddeford. He was involved for more than 40 years with Boy Scout Troop 308 and was Scoutmaster and committee chairman. He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, St. Louis Alumni Association, Disabled American Veterans in Biddeford and St. Joseph Church of the Good Shepherd Parish. He enjoyed traveling, local and professional sports.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Paul Charland, in 2001.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years of Biddeford; three sons, Robert Charland and his wife, Diane, of Biddeford, Richard Charland and his wife, Charlene, of Biddeford and Raymond Charland and his wife, Carol, of Biddeford; two stepsons, Rene P. Simard and his wife, Sharon, of Biddeford and Leo J. Simard and his wife, Karen, of Biddeford; one sister, Pauline Loranger of Biddeford; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and  several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Roger E. Paquette

 

Roger E. Paquette, 69, of Saco, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born Feb. 21, 1941, in Biddeford to Emile and Irene (Vachon) Paquette. He attended Thornton Academy.

He was employed by Shape Industries in Biddeford for 22 years and retired in 1998 because of health problems. He was a self-employed carpenter after his retirement.

Mr. Paquette was a track star while at Thornton Academy and won several state and local events. He also played the drums with the Thornton Academy band and with numerous local bands, including Me Him and the Other Guy.

Mr. Paquette is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (Bergeron) Paquette of Saco; his two daughters, Donna Paquette and Debbie Cassette and her husband, Robert Cassette Jr., all of Saco; and one granddaughter.

Irene B. Turnage

 

Irene B. Turnage, 93, of Ocean Park, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Pine Point Healthcare Center in Scarborough.

She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Biddeford to Wilfred and Marion (Lambert) Belanger. She was educated in Canada.

Mrs. Turnage was employed at Kessler Shoe in Kennebunk for many years and also was a day care provider. She was a past member of American Legion women’s auxiliary, enjoyed arts and crafts, was an avid reader and loved to play Bingo.

Survivors include  her sons, Wayne Turnage of Texas, Paul Turnage of Kennebunk, Richard Turnage of Massachusetts and Patrick Turnage of Arizona; four daughters, Margaret Ann Gouty of Maryland, Mary Ann Smithers of Arizona, Evelyn Cote of Saco and Jeanne Jacques of Maryland; her brother, George Belanger of Connecticut; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Claudette V. White

 

Claudette V. White, 75, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough with her longtime companion by her side.

She was born June 15, 1935, in Biddeford, to the late Ovila and Yvonne (Gregoire) Gaulin. She attended St. Andre High School and graduated in 1954.

She worked as a secretary at Fiber Materials in Biddeford for more than 20 years and previously worked for several years at the former Trull Nursing Home and Maine Liquor Commission.

She was a parishioner of St. Andre Church, Good Shepherd Parish. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping, especially in Maine.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerard A. Roy, in 1994; her second husband, Robert C. White, in 1999; and her sister, Jacqueline Gaulin in 1977.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Raymond L. Herrick of Biddeford, three nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Rachel B. Horne

 

Rachel B. Horne, 80, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at her residence.

She was born July 29, 1930, in Biddeford, to Alphee and Rose Alma Boisvert Bellefeuille and was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mrs. Horne was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family. In 1963, she moved to Torrington, Conn., and owned and operated a Dunkin’ Donuts with her husband, Leon. In 1973, she moved to Delray Beach, Fla., with her family. She was employed by Bank Atlantic for 24 years, retired as a bank vice president in 2000 and moved back to Biddeford the same year.

Mrs. Horne was a parishioner of St. Andre Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon N. Horne, on Feb. 4, 1998; by two sons, Michael R. Horne and Mark Horne; one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include one son, Leon N. Horne II and his wife, Karen, of Washington; one daughter, Linda H. Peltzman of Biddeford; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three nieces.

Roselle I. Bedard

 

Roselle I. Bedard, 75, of Biddeford died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at St. Andre Health Care Facility.

She was born April 20, 1935, in Eagle Lake to Joseph and Ida Simard Plourde and was educated in Biddeford schools.

On Feb. 27, 1965, she married Leo W. Bedard Sr. at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunkport.

Mrs. Bedard was a homemaker. She also worked a few years at Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in Biddeford and in area shoe shops. She enjoyed reading and family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her son, Leo W. Bedard Jr., on July 15, 2008; one sister, Thelma Plourde; and two brothers, Bertrand Plourde and Conrad Plourde.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years of Biddeford; two daughters, Lisa Bedard and her fiancé, Joe Lavigne, of Arundel, and Bernice E. Daggett and her husband, Teddy Sr., of Arundel; two sisters, Margaret Parker and her husband, Vernon, of Buxton and Juliette Dubois and her husband, Donald, of Parsonsfield; one half-brother, Edmund Plourde and his wife, Mary, of West Enfield; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Raymond Lamontagne

 

Raymond A. Lamontagne, 85, of Scarborough and formerly of Saco, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Biddeford, to George and Margaret (Bowen) Lamontagne. He attended local schools.

Mr. Lamontagne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He started his career at Bates Manufacturing and then worked at Pepperell Manufacturing for 45 years until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of American Legion Post 26. He was a sports enthusiast and member of the Men’s Softball League for 16 years on the CIO team.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George Lamontagne, Paul Lamontagne and Robert Lamontagne; and three sisters, Annette Lamontagne, Rita Lojoie and Theresa Beauchesne.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Canning and her husband, Mark, of Suffield, Conn.; two sons, Albert Lamontagne and his wife, Lorraine, of Biddeford, Richard Lamontagne and his wife, Holly, of Scarborough; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
