Doris M. Sangillo

 

Doris M. Sangillo, 78, of Alfred and formerly of Saco, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born April 12, 1932, in Biddeford, to the late Emella Trudeau and Vernon Chapman. She attended Biddeford schools.

In 1952 she married Adam J. Sangillo. He died Feb. 4, 2004, after more than 52 years of marriage.

She worked most of her life at Pepperell, Bates and Biddeford textile mills. She was a longtime member of the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.

One of her hobbies was knitting and she made every grandchild a zip-up sweater and afghan. She also enjoyed cross-stitching. Mrs. Sangillo loved traveling with her friends and family; her last traveling adventure was to Europe. She especially enjoyed shopping and spending time with her children, grandchildren and her best friend, Noelle.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her sons Adam Jr. and Anthony Sangillo; and her sister, Vivian Rowe.

Survivors include her sons Michael D. Sangillo of Gray and Thomas P. Sangillo of Biddeford; two daughters, Karen M. Sangillo of Alfred and Kathleen T. Sangillo of North Waterboro; two stepsons, Frank A. Sangillo of Saco and James Sangillo of Surry; her stepdaughter, Patricia Sangillo of Contoocook, N.H.; her brother, Clyde Chapman of Portland,  Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Paul E. Kerry

 

Paul Edward Kerry, 74, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at his home in Saco.

He was born Dec. 13, 1936, the eldest of six children of Raymond and Grace Kerry of Saco. He attended Saco schools, where he played basketball and football at Thornton Academy and graduated in 1954.

In 1957, Mr. Kerry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Cote.

He served in the National Guard and was employed by  Saco Lowell Shops, Trailways and United Parcel Service Inc., where he started as a delivery driver and was promoted to supervisor. In 1970, he and his three brothers and cousin Jimmy Sullivan opened The Kerrymen Family Restaurant and Pub. He left UPS and began his second career as manager of the family business from 1978 until his retirement in 2008.

Mr. Kerry had a weak spot in his heart for his youngest sister, Mary Kerry Libby, who died of cancer in 1997. The family founded Mary’s Walk in 1999 as a memorial to her and to raise money for cancer research. Each year he devoted his time to support Mary’s Walk and solicit donations of food and money. He also supported many other local charities.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond J. Kerry, and his youngest sister, Mary Kerry Libby of Saco.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his son, Michael, of Saco; his daughter, Julie Collins, and her husband, Dennis, of Las Vegas, Nev.; his grandson; his mother, Grace Kerry McNally; his brothers, David, Richard and John Kerry of Saco; his sister, Ann Kerry, of Cape Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.

William R. Santini

 

William R. Santini, 64, of Dayton, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Framingham, Mass., to Emo and Inez (Biagetti) Santini and graduated from Marian High School in Framingham.

On Aug. 10, 1968, he married Adrienne M. Gately at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate, Mass.

Mr. Santini worked as a terminal manager for M & G Convoy in Newark, Del., as a transportation supervisor at Interstate Bakeries in Massachusetts, Philadelphia and Biddeford. He retired in 2005 due to ill health.

He enjoyed spending his spare time working around the yard and tinkering with small projects. He also enjoyed playing on the computer and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Wilson. 

He was preceded in death by his sister Diane Santini.

Survivors include his wife of more than 42 years, Adrienne M. Santini of Dayton; one daughter, Christine M. Karlberg and her husband, David, of Tewksbury, Mass.; his son, Joseph E. Santini and his wife, Julia, of Bear, Del.; his brother, Gary Santini, and his wife, Christine, of Loudan, Tenn.; one sister, Patricia Lanouette of Chantilly, Va.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis J. Bombredi

 

Phyllis J. (Boisvert) Bombredi, 71, of Old Orchard Beach, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford following an illness. 

She was born Nov. 24, 1939, in Worcester, Mass., to Stella R. Boisvert of Holden and Walter A. Boisvert.

She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Old Orchard Beach. She worked as a medical secretary for several years before retiring five years ago. She enjoyed vacationing in Maine where she eventually made her home, knitting, crocheting, doing crafts, baking and especially cooking for her friends and family.

Survivors include her husband, George A. Bombredi; two daughters, Kathleen M. Kessler of Florida and Sharron J. (Kessler) Breault and her husband, William, of Millbury, Mass.; her son, Stephen P. Kessler of Florida; two sisters, Carolyn Rassias and her husband, Angelo, of Holden, and Joan Newman of Florida; her brother, Walter Boisvert, and his wife, Michelle, of Idaho; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Dennett, Craig & Pate in Saco.

Therese M. Petit

 

Therese Marie Petit, 85, of Saco, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 17, 1925, in Jay, one of six children of Joseph and Phemina Nolette Dallaire.

She spent her early years living on a farm located in foothills overlooking the Androscoggin River and walked a wooded path to a one-room schoolhouse two miles from the farm.

During the Great Depression, her cousins from Biddeford spent weeks at the farm during summer. Although the family left the farm in the 1930s for the steady employment in Biddeford’s textile mills, she returned to the farm’s ruins each fall for the past 60 years with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On April 12, 1945, she married Marine Pvt. Roland Lucien Petit of Biddeford. While he started his home winterizing business, she took care of their five children. Mrs. Petit provided a warm environment at home or the family camp. She cooked ragout, baked tortieres, made crepes, éclairs, fig squares and irresistible fudge.

Once their children were grown, Therese and Roland traveled to Florida and a surprise trip in 1980 to Capri, 44 years after she won a talent contest singing “Isle of Capri” at the Canton Grange Hall.

Survivors include four children, Michael Petit and his wife, Pamela Day, of Arlington, Va., Dennis Petit of Saco, Nancy Twomey and her husband, Richard, of Saco and Debra Robinson of Saco; her brother, Gerard “Del” Dallaire, of Biddeford; 24 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Walter L. Daye

 

Walter L. Daye Jr., 73, of Lyman, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Calais to Walter L. and Queenie E. (Waycott) Daye Sr. He attended the St. Stephen School in New Brunswick, Canada, but left to care for his ailing mother.

Mr. Daye served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Hawaii and Guam.

On Jan. 26, 1957, he married Mary Bartolini in Eloy, Ariz.

Following his military service he managed Coil Winding machine shop in Biddeford. He then operated a body shop in Bar Mills until his retirement in 1985 due to illness.

Mr. Daye enjoyed working on cars and playing cards. He also enjoyed watching his daughter show their show horses.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Daye, on Aug. 29, 2010.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years; three sons, Walter L. Daye III of Lyman, Tony Daye and his companion, Sandra McDonough, of Alfred and Stoy W. Daye Sr. of Baldwin; two daughters, Queenie E. Daye of Sanford and Patricia M. Daye and her companion, Shawn Shaw, of Arundel; one sister, Patricia Ruth Manning of Pawtucket, R.I.; 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and one nephew.

Amos Boyden III

 

Amos Boyden III, 72, of Lyman died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough surrounded by his family.

He was born July 16, 1938, in West Kennebunk to Amos D. and Stella M. (Hanson) Boyden Jr. He attended local schools and in the 1950s served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

On Nov. 3, 1962, he married Pamela Angell at the Christ Church in Kennebunk.

Following his military service he was employed at Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District. He then owned and operated Boyden’s Market in West Kennebunk during the 1960s and 1970s.  He later became owner and operator of Lord and Brooks Plumbing and Heating from 1978 until his retirement in 2005.

Mr. Boyden was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on old trucks and tractors in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela, of Lyman; his daughter, Kellie Boyden of Biddeford; his son, Christopher Boyden and his wife, Kathy, of Lyman; three brothers, Fred Smith of Laconia, N.H., Eric Boyden of Lyman and Stephen Boyden of Dade City, Fla.; two sisters, Marita Howe of Rindge, N.H., and Janice Edwards of Gorham; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

John F. Wade

 

John F. Wade, 56, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at his home after a long illness with cancer.

He was born April 12, 1954, in Dublin, Ireland, to Sean and Rosaleen O’Shea Wade and arrived in America with his family in October 1958.

Mr. Wade graduated from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn., in 1976 and completed course work toward his doctorate from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1978.

He worked for the government in positions ranging from director of education to chief of staff and on numerous political campaigns in Washington, D.C., New York and Maine. He was an activist for social justice and education, particularly for women and minorities, and was a consultant and volunteer until last fall.

Survivors include his mother, Rosaleen Wade of Portland; his sister, Ann Marie Knoepfel of Portland; his brother, Richard (Rory) Wade of New York City; four nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Ella D. Curlew

 

Ella D. Curlew, 84, of Saco, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at St. Andre Health Care Facility.

She was born March 22, 1926, in Biddeford to Edward and Mary (Lucky) Tracy.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
