Raymond R. Allie

 

Raymond R. Allie, 87, formerly of Biddeford, died Monday, Jan.24, 2011, at Seal Rock Healthcare at Atlantic Heights in Saco after a long illness.

 He was born Jan. 31, 1923, in St. Jean du Berville, Quebec,  Canada, to Albert and Marie Anne Morin Allie. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from the former St. Louis High School in 1941.

Mr. Allie served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On  May 6, 1946, he married Orilla Guerette at St. Andre Church in Biddeford.

Mr. Allie was self-employed as a building contractor in southern Maine for 38 years and did business as Raymond R. Allie & Sons. In retirement he maintained Mid Town Properties in Biddeford for 24 years.

He was a member of St. Louis Alumni Association and St. Joseph Church of the Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Roland R. Allie in 1947 and Gerard R. Allie in 2006; a grandson, Brian G. Allie in 2004; four brothers, Leo Paul, Lionel,  Robert and Norman Allie; and two sisters, Irene Verrier and Rita Poulin.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years of Saco; his son, Donald R. Allie and his wife, Linda, of Biddford; his daughter, Jeanne P. Lyons and her husband, William, of York; one brother, Rene Allie and his wife, Claire, of Venice, Fla.; one sister, Theresa Rousseau of Biddeford and Florida; one daughter-in-law, Claudette Allie of Biddeford; seven  grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and  several nieces and nephews.

John W. Lombard

 

John W. Lombard, 74, of Saco, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Hazel E. Hirst

 

Hazel E. Hirst, 86, of the Wardwell Retirement Community in Saco, died at her home Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.

She was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Grove City, Pa., the eldest daughter of the late Clarence and Helen (Morrison) Urey.

She graduated from Grove City High School in 1942 and two years later married Irving R. Hirst and they lived in Old Orchard Beach. They divorced in 1953 and she remained in the area to raise her children.

She left the state in 1964 to become manager of the Holiday Inn in Dedham and Norwood, Mass., and later worked for Prudential Insurance in Bucks County, Pa., for 10 years. She retired to Old Orchard Beach in 1986 to be closer to her son and granddaughters.

She had many passions, including reading, music, dancing and traveling with her family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and loved the Red Sox and Patriots.  Her interests included local history and she enjoyed volunteering at the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dale V. Hirst, in 2002.

Survivors include one son, Edward J. Hirst and his wife, Pamela Johnson, of Saco; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren, a niece and nephew.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Ruth L. Huff

 

Ruth L. Huff, 90, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born Jan. 6, 1921, to Stanislaus and Pauline Lamarre Gendron. She was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1938.

Mrs. Huff worked 32 years at West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in Biddeford, 12 years at Herman’s Shoe in Scarborough and 12 years at York Manor in Biddeford. She retired in 1997 due to ill health.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lucien Fournier, in 1961; her second husband, George Huff, in 1992; her son, Adrien Fournier, in 2009; six brothers and five sisters.

She enjoyed working with the elderly, playing cards and Bingo.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Thompson and her husband, Paul, of Millbridge and Priscille Herolt and her husband, Dennis, of Queen Creek, Ariz.; one sister, Paulette Lemay of Melbourne, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jeannette Brousseau

 

Jeannette M. Brousseau, 90, formerly of  Old Orchard Beach, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco.

She was born May 25, 1920, in Biddeford to the late Philias and Yvonne (LaCourse) Lambert.

She attended school in Biddeford and worked at Pepperell Mills, Robert’s Coat Store and Radley’s Market.

Mrs. Brousseau will always be remembered as a person with a strong work ethic who was outgoing and always willing to help anyone. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also liked nursing home activities such as Bingo and was devoted to St. Joseph and praying the rosary. She was a member of St. Margaret Church and the local American Legion post auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William J. Brousseau, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Yvonne DeLorenzo and her husband, Robert, of Lyman, Joan Woodward and her husband, Woody, of Florida and Therese Thomas and her husband, Robert, of Texas; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and distant family members.

Aime F. Labbe

 

Aime F. Labbe, 77, of Saco, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Biddeford to Joseph and Eugenie Cote Labbe. He was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mr. Labbe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Maremont Corp./Saco Defense for 23 years and retired in 1989.

He was an avid sports fan, but most loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Labbe was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, Good Shepherd Parish, in Saco.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Laurette Houde Labbe of Saco; one son, David J. Labbe and his girlfriend, Lisa Foster, of Cumberland; two daughters, Priscilla L. Simoneau and her husband, Leo, of Biddeford and Lucille Gooch and her husband, William, of Saco; two brothers, Reynald and Richard Labbe; his sister, Rolande Roy; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Robert A. Hevey

 

Robert A. Hevey, 85, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.

He was born April 2, 1925, in Biddeford, to Arthur and Merilda Brochu Hevey. He attended St. Joseph School and St. Louis High School and left school during World War II to serve in the Navy aboard the USS South Dakota.

On May 28, 1949, he married Pauline Chenard at St. Andre Church in Biddeford, where they were lifelong parishioners.

Mr. Hevey worked for 42 years by Saco-Lowell Shops through the firm’s transitions to Maremont, Saco Defense and General Dynamics. He retired in 1987. He also moonlighted for many years at Scarborough Downs.

Mr. Hevey enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends and attending family gatherings. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 10 brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Pauline Hevey of Biddeford; two daughters, Linda Briggs and her husband, Allen, of Rochester, N.Y., and Karen Cormier and her husband, William, of Biddeford; two sons, Robert Hevey and his wife, Maxey, of East  Waterboro and Timothy Hevey and his wife, Janet, of Shrewsbury, Mass.; one sister, Claire Bouffard of Biddeford; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Roger G. Belanger

 

Roger G. Belanger, 63, of Biddeford, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born Dec. 11, 1947, in Biddeford to Gerard and Georgette Roy Belanger. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from Biddeford Adult Education.

Mr. Belanger served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

On Aug. 11, 1979, he married Lorraine J. Rousselle in Dayton.

Mr. Belanger worked as an auto mechanic for area dealerships and last worked 23 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until he retired in 2007 due to ill health.

He enjoyed NASCAR and working on old classic cars.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years of Biddeford; one son, Derek Belanger of Old Orchard Beach; two daughters, Angela Searles and her husband, Paul, of Knightsdale, N.C., and Victoria Belanger of Arundel; two brothers, Michael Belanger of Old Orchard Beach and Daniel Belanger and his wife, Paulette, of Arundel; one sister, Annette Cleary, and her husband, Michael, of Lyman; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Laura A. Wolfahrt

 

Laura A. Wolfahrt, 58, of Biddeford, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born March 27, 1952, in Biddeford to John and Elaine Whelan Angis. The family moved to Massachusetts for a brief time while her father began his career in the pharmaceutical industry.

When the family returned to Maine they settled in Saco, where Laura attended local schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1970. Her college education was interrupted twice, once by the marriage to her best friend, Dean, on Aug. 24, 1973, and a second time by the birth of their son, Jeffrey, on May 26, 1976. She graduated from the University of Maine in May  1978.

Mrs. Wolfahrt began her teaching career in Ellsworth in fall of 1978. When she and her husband returned to southern Maine she continued her career at Thornton Academy, where she taught English from 1987 until her death.  She loved to read, spend time at the beach and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Angis Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Dean P. Wolfahrt of Biddeford; one son, Jeffrey Wolfahrt of Biddeford; two grandchildren; her brothers, William Angis and his wife, Diane, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Christopher Angis and Timothy Angis of Saco; her sister, Jane Kerry; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Felicidade Thurber

 

Felicidade F. “Joy” Thurber, 93, of Deerfield, N.H., and formerly Hills Beach in Biddeford, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011.

She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Fall River, Mass., to the late Antonio and Antonia (Berreira) Sousa.

On Dec. 31, 1975, she married Everett M. Thurber in Belchertown, Mass. He died June 15, 2005, after 29 years of marriage.

During World War II, she worked as a welder in the shipyards. She later received her associate degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of Massachusetts and continued to work there as restaurant manager for many years before her retirement in 1987. Following her retirement, she and her husband relocated to Biddeford.

She was known for her cooking, creating lace and stone masonry. She loved the water, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include her daughters, Frances F. Maimone of Maine and Linda L. Wright-Phelps and her husband, Norman, of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Richard W. Havey

 

Richard W. Havey, 78, of Biddeford, died unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland as the result of an accident on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.

He was born March 8, 1932, in Biddeford to Raymond and Marie Lois (Warren) Havey. He was a 1950 graduate of Biddeford High School.

Mr. Havey enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

On March 18, 1967, he married Lorraine Boisvert in Kennebunk.

Mr. Havey worked for 35 years as an electrician at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement he worked odd jobs at many local establishments, including Dyer Library, Hannaford Bros. and McDonald’s.

He was a parishioner of the Goodwins Mills United Methodist Church in Lyman and a member of the Men’s Club.

Mr. Havey enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s many sporting events, including hockey, baseball and softball games. He liked to stay busy gardening or doing work around his house and one of his favorite pastimes was traveling, especially to Las Vegas with his wife, Lorraine.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond “Coleman” Havey.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lorraine Havey of Biddeford; one son, William D. Havey of Biddeford; one daughter, Lynn M. Paquette and her husband, Steven, of Biddeford; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Donner T. Vacari

 

Donner Townsend Vacari, 49, of Biddeford, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011.

She was born Jan. 12, 1962, to David and Susan Lamirande Townsend of Saco.

She was known for her love of animals and the outdoors and took great pride in caring for her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed open freshwater and ice fishing, Bingo, genealogy and making quilts.

She was preceded in death by her father in 2002 and by a brother, Darren Townsend, in 1996.

Survivors include her former husband, John Vacari of Biddeford; her sisters, Debbie Stockwell of Alfred, Diane Wildes of Saco, Dorothy Green of Sanford, Deanne Townsend of Alfred, Doreen Townsend of Saco, Darlene Ireland of Parsonsfield and Jennifer Howard and Chris Cross of Sanford; and her brother, David Townsend Jr. of Sanford.

Fernande B. Reardon

 

Fernande Binette Reardon, 88, of Saco, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at St. Andre Health Care Facility in Biddeford.

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Biddeford to Wilfred and Melina (Perreault) Binette. She attended Biddeford high school and graduated from Portsmouth High School. She later attended Portland School of Art and graduated from Golden Beauty Academy in Portland.

She was a beautician for 40 years in Saco and retired in 1982. After her retirement she moved to York and later Kittery.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Binette, and a sister, Leonne Boucher.

Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Reardon Ellingwood of Kennebunk; two sisters, Claire Littlefield of Sun City, Calif., and Muriel; and several nieces and nephews.

Catherine J. Davis

 

Catherine (Cathy) Jean Davis, 53, of Saco, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, surrounded by her family in Scarborough after an illness with cancer.

She was born Oct. 16, 1957, in Augsburg, Germany, to Norman Dupuis and Alice Holmstead Dupuis.  She lived in several locations as a child and returned to Saco in 1973. She was a graduate of Thornton Academy and Casco Bay College in Portland, where she earned an associate degree in business administration.

On Sept. 27, 1985, she married Linwood (Linnie) Davis in Saco, the same day Hurricane Gloria passed through Maine. The wedding went as planned with a candlelight ceremony and a donated generator that supplied power for the wedding reception

She was employed by Anthem Blue Cross in South Portland for 20 years. For the last six years she worked for Kennebunk High School’s special education department and also part time at Dupuis’s Hardware and Lock Smith.   

Mrs. Davis enjoyed traveling to many locations, especially her annual trips to Aruba and her most recent trip to Paris.  She loved following her daughter’s equestrian events and played in a local women’s soccer league.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Holmstead Dupuis of Saco.  

Survivors include her children, Brittany Davis and Tyler Davis of Saco; her husband of 25 years, Linwood (Linnie) Davis of Saco; a brother, Gary Dupuis of Damariscotta; her father, Norman Dupuis and his wife, Lorraine, of Arundel and Florida; in-laws, aunts, uncles and nephews.

Alain M. Dube

 

Alain M. Dube, 56, of Biddeford, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born April 11, 1954, in Quebec to Romeo and Rosa Belanger Dube. He graduated from Biddeford High School.

Mr. Dube was employed as a welder by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years and retired in 1995. He also owned and operated Al Dube Quarter Horses in Biddeford. He was an accomplished horseman and successful farmer for more than 35 years.

He was a mentor for many as he quietly promoted the industry by giving his time, guidance and wisdom to young men and women. He also was a well-known performance horse farrier and was featured on the cover of American Farriers Journal in March/April 1998.

Mr. Dube was a lifetime member of the National Reining Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association and belonged to the Professional Horseman’s Association and the 4aHorse Breeder’s Association. He also was an avid Patriots football fan.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Louiselle Dube, and by two brothers, Magella and Leonard Dube.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Cynthia Hodak of Biddeford; two stepchildren, Nicole and Kristen Hodak; seven brothers, George Dube and his wife, Carmen, of Arundel, Bertin Dube and his wife, Gisele, of Arundel, Gervais Dube and his wife, Diane, of Biddeford, Ronald Dube and his wife, Rita, of Canada, Jeannot and his wife, Madeleine, of Canada, Raymond Dube and his wife, Rolande, of Canada and Gilles Dube and his wife, Huguette, of Quebec; three sisters, Diane Paquette and her husband, Donald, of Old Orchard Beach, Leona Harvey and her husband, Rock, of Quebec and Lucette Cyr and her husband, Gilles, of Montreal; and several nieces and nephews.

Francis E. McNabb

 

Francis E. McNabb, 81, of Saco, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born March 11, 1929, in Biddeford to John and Nora (Sullivan) McNabb and was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mr. McNabb enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 27, 1946, and served during World War II. He received the Victory Medal at the end of the war and again during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged Feb. 8, 1954. He was employed as a maintenance specialist by the U.S. Postal Service in Portland and retired in 1996.

He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing golf and an occasional trip to Mohegan Sun for a little gambling. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, John McNabb, Paul McNabb and Gene McNabb and two sisters, Elizabeth McNabb and Ruth McNabb.

Survivors include his partner of 25 years, Louise Hamor of Saco; his four sons, Michael McNabb of Naples, David McNabb and his partner, Joanne Pinsonnault, of Limington, Edward McNabb of Old Orchard Beach and Shawn McNabb of Portland; his daughter, Cynthia McNabb of Portland; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
