Theresa M. Lemire

 

Theresa M. Lemire, 87, of Biddeford and formerly of the Monarch Center in Saco, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Yarmouth.

She was born July 21, 1923, in Biddeford to Albert and Josephine (Palardis) Morin and was a 1941 Biddeford High School graduate.

She was married to Leo Lemire, former mayor of Biddeford.

Mrs. Lemire was employed as a young woman by Pepperell Manufacturing Co. She then worked with her husband at Lemire’s Furniture Store in Biddeford. She also was employed at the Children’s Shop, the city clerk’s office in Biddeford and volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at St. Joseph School.

Mrs. Lemire was a longtime member of St. Andre and St. Joseph church choirs and the Daughters of Isabella. A talented vocalist, she sang on a WGAN radio show in the 1940s, and in 1948 made a recording of “Alice Blue Gown.” She entertained frequently at local nursing homes and senior citizen centers and auditioned for the role of Snow White in the Disney animated film. She also performed in various local musical productions such as “Cardiac Capers.”

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leo Lemire, on Dec. 24, 2002; her daughter, Margo Lemire, in 1962; son-in-law, Raymond Dupuis, in 2007; and her sisters, Pauline Lemelin in 1955 and Lee Nicoletos in 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Dupuis of Biddeford and Celeste Crowley and her husband, Jeremiah, of Lyman; two sons, Richard Lemire of Biddeford and Norman Lemire and his wife, Raelyn, of Kennebunk; one grandson; her sister, Mary Crosby of Massachusetts; and two sisters-in-law, Therese Saucier of Biddeford and Rita Roy of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Joseph L. Legere

 

Joseph Laurent “Larry” Legere, 72, of Biddeford died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

Arrangements will be by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Therese J. Vigue

 

Therese J. Vigue, 84, of Biddeford and formerly of Old Orchard Beach, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Biddeford to Joseph F. and Jeannette F. Lafargue Gagnon. She was educated in Biddeford and Saco schools.

Mrs. Vigue worked a couple of years in local shoe shops, more than 25 years at Pepperell and York manufacturing companies in Biddeford and Saco, 15 years at Shape Inc. in Biddeford and two years at Xuron Co. in Saco. She retired in 1988.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, doing ceramics, photography and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard M. Vigue, in 1991; her sister, Doris Guay, in 1998; and brother, Conrad O. Gagnon, in 2007.

Survivors include her sister, Beatrice Roy of Biddeford; daughter-in-law, Judith Vigue of Dayton; two grandsons, three nieces and a nephew.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Matthew R. Frechette

 

Matthew R. Frechette, 43, died unexpectedly at his Saco home Thursday, March 3, 2011.

He was born Feb. 29, 1968, in Portland to Richard and Linda (Hill) Frechette. He graduated from Biddeford High School and received his certification from Northeast Technical Institute.

Mr. Frechette worked a few years at Frank Galos Chevrolet as a mechanic. He also worked on two racing teams, Go Green Racing in the nationwide series and JBR Racing in the east series. He loved everything and everyone in his racing family.

He also was active in 4H and won several awards for showing horses. He competed weekly in the APA pool league at Champions Sports Bar in Biddeford and loved spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Frechette

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Tina Avallone of Saco; two stepchildren, Jenna Ruck of Saco, and Chad Avallone and his wife, Jennifer, of Saco; his mother, Linda Mitchell and her husband, Jon, of Dayton; four grandchildren; seven siblings, John Mitchell and his wife, Dee Dee, Larry Mitchell and his wife, Val, Paul Mitchell, Sam Mitchell and his wife, Laurie, Tom Mitchell, Amanda Nashawaty and her husband, Scott, and Mary Levine and her husband, Mike; two nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

G. Philip Stanwood

 

G. Philip Stanwood, 85, of Saco, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born Dec.7, 1925, in Arlington, Mass., to George Llewellyn and Helen (Cressey) Stanwood. He attended local schools.

He worked 20 years as a toll collector for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and then four years at AVX. He retired in 2004 because of an injury and in retirement volunteered for The Salvation Army.

On Dec. 1, 2002, he married Jeannette Perreault in Biddeford.

He was a member of the Lincoln Club in Portland, Portland Lions Club, Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge No. 1597, Owaka Club and 50+ Club at the Ross Center in Biddeford.

He was an avid Red Sox ran and in his younger days taught Little League baseball and football in Gorham.

He was preceded in death by his second wife.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Jeannette R. Stanwood; his son, Kenneth Stanwood of Windham; his daughter, Diane, of Ohio; one sister, Katherine Whiting of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Connie Dentico and her husband, Michael, of Arundel and Rita Hebert and her husband, Ronnie, of Biddeford; three stepsons, Albert Perreault and his wife, Rachel, of Biddeford, Roland Perreault and his wife, Kathy, of Waterboro and Oliva Perreault and his wife, Deanna, of Waterboro; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three  great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

George Belanger

 

George Belanger, 87, of Saco, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at St. Andre Healthcare Facility in Biddeford.

He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Saco to Antonio and Eva Grebin Belanger. He was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mr. Belanger enjoyed making puzzles, watching baseball with his father and singing.

He was a parishioner of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Good Shepherd Parish, in Saco.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rosaire and Omer Belanger and four sisters, Lucienne Ruel, Rachel Dussault, Gilberte Burdick and Sylvia Labonte.

Survivors include one sister, Evelyn Grace of Kittery; his brother-in-law, Pete Leslie Labonte of Saco; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

 

Danielle Roy

 

Danielle Roy, 61, of Saco, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born July 5, 1949, in Ville DeGelis, Canada, to Lucien and Simone (Dumont) Theriault and began her education there. She moved to this area in 1967 and received her GED from Biddeford Adult Education in 1986.

On Aug. 12, 1972, she married Gerald Roy at St. Andre Church. 

She was employed until recently at Fairchild Semiconductor, where she worked for 37 years.

She was an avid photographer and also enjoyed making scrapbooks, painting, cross-stitching, cooking and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.

Survivors  include her son, Kevin Roy of Old Orchard Beach; her daughter, Jessica Roy of Saco; one granddaughter; three sisters, Louiselle Albert and her husband, Gerard, of Boston, Marcelle Brouillette of Montreal and Rejeanne Beaulieu and her husband, Viateur, of Biddeford; two brothers, Rene Theriault and his wife, Marie Paule, of Biddeford and Berthier Theriault and his wife, Nicole, of Biddeford; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Paul Corbeil

 

Paul “Fats” Corbeil, 72, of Saco, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford following a long illness.

He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Biddeford, to Solime and Florence (Precourt) Corbeil. He attended Biddeford schools.

On July 4, 1961, he married Doris J. Gagne at the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco.

He worked as a foreman at General Dynamics in Saco for more than 25 years until his retirement in 1985 for medical reasons. He previously worked as a lumberjack with his father in the woods of southern Maine and for several years on his sister’s farm.

Mr. Corbeil loved spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren and sharing ice cream on the way to the beach with his family. He enjoyed watching WWE wrestling and cutting and caring for his lawn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Doris J. Corbeil of Saco; two daughters, Diane M. Corbeil of Saco and Pauline D. Corbeil and fiancé, Charles Phillips, of Saco; three sisters, Florence Picard of Dayton, Sylvia Bourget of Saco and Rita LeHoux of Biddeford; two brothers, Ovide Corbeil and his wife, Nancy, of Bridgton and Lucien Corbeil of Saco; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

Marie L. Labonte

 

Marie Luce Labonte, 89, of Quebec and formerly of Biddeford, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Jardins du Haut Saint-Laurent in Quebec City, Quebec.

She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in St. Urbain de Charlevoix, Quebec, to Adelard Girard and Marie Louise Simard.

On Sept. 5, 1955, she married Robert H. Labonte in St. Urbain. She moved to Biddeford, where she worked with her husband for 22 years at Labonte Dairy Farm on South Street in Biddeford.

Mrs. Labonte was a member of the Biddeford Senior Citizens and St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years of Quebec City; one sister, Therese Girard of Baie-St. Paul, Quebec; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.

 

Norma M. Dutille

 

Norma McGraw Dutille of Saco, formerly of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, with her family at her side.

She was born July 15, 1926, in Greene to Augustus and Verna Gordon McGraw of Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School.

In 1943 she married Pfc. Dana L. Chaplin of Auburn, who died in the Battle of St. Lo, France, in 1944. She married George C. Dutille of Lewiston in 1946. They were married for 40 years and lived in Lewiston and Livermore Falls before moving to Saco in 1958.

Mrs. Dutille was a member of the Methodist church and participated in the choir and church groups in communities where she lived. She was a Girl Scout leader in the Lewiston area, an activity she shared with her daughters.

She also was an accomplished pianist, singer and organist and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, cooking, ceramics and oil painting. She was employed at Evergreen Manor in Saco for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Pfc. Dana L. Chaplin in 1944 and George C. Dutille in 1985.

Survivors include her four daughters, Donna Chaplin Umbro of Biddeford, Myrna Dutille Schneider of Wildomar, Calif., Darlene Dutille Janiszewski of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tammy Dutille Nava and her husband, Frank, of Lyman; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, Lewiston.
