A Saco woman has been indicted for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her roommate 20 times on Christmas Eve.
Pamela A. Young, 48, of Saco, last week was indicted by a York County grand jury on charges of attempted murder, two counts of elevated aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a weapon.
Young has been held on $15,000 cash bail at York County Jail since her arrest. She is accused of stabbing 50-year-old Dale Berube about 20 times in the apartment they shared at 25 Thornton Ave.
A Saco police officer responded to a 911 call from Young around 12:30 a.m. Dec. 24 and found Berube in the bathtub. Maine State Police detectives assisted in the investigation because of the severity of Berube’s injuries, police said.
Berube was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and underwent emergency surgery. Young currently is prohibited from contacting Berube.
Amy Fairfield, Young’s court-appointed attorney, filed a motion for evaluation of her client because she “has serious concerns about (Young’s) mental health as well as her ability to understand the process and nature of the charge against her,” according to court records.
Young initially was charged with elevated aggravated assault. A mental health exam was granted and performed at Riverview Psychiatric Center.
Young is scheduled to appear July 1 in York County Superior Court.
