Paulette Ruel
Paulette Ruel, 87, of Biddeford, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at York Manor in Biddeford.
She was born April 12, 1924, in Biddeford to Adelard and Lumina (Tardif) Tanguay and attended local schools. She earned her GED in the 1970s.
On April 22, 1946, she married Urbain R. Ruel at St. Andre Church in Biddeford. She worked in several local stores, including a shoe shop, Reilly’s Bakery and Edwards Market.
She enjoyed playing beano, going for walks and celebrating the birthdays of her relatives. Her children, grandchildren and others could always count on a card from her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Urbain, on Sept. 14, 1977; three brothers: Raymond, Paul and Henri Tanguay; and three sisters, Rachel Gillis, Blanche Pepin and Violet Bissonnette.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Ruel and his wife, Christine, of Weymouth, Mass., Michael Ruel and his wife, Becky, of Old Orchard Beach and Brian Ruel and his wife, Jane, of Greenwich, N.Y.; two sisters, Jacqueline Croteau and Gloria Dubois, both of Biddeford; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
Paul A. Marchand
Paul A. Marchand, 80, of Biddeford, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief illness with lung cancer.
He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Biddeford to Theophile and Emma Lavalliere Marchand. He was educated in Biddeford schools and attended St. Louis High School. He later graduated from Saco Adult Education.
Mr. Marchand served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On April 20, 1953, he married Geraldine Dube at St. Andre Church in Biddeford.
He worked at the Saco-Lowell Shop for several years and then lived and worked for seven years in Hartford, Conn., before returning to Biddeford in 1961. He then worked 14 years at Saco Tanning Corp. in Saco and last worked 20 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1992.
He was a member of Biddeford Senior Citizens. He enjoyed taking walks and caring for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years of Biddeford; four sons, Ronald Marchand and his wife, Wendy, of Eliot, Philip Marchand and his wife, Dot, of Old Orchard Beach, Robert Marchand of Eliot and Richard Marchand of Biddeford; three daughters, Susan Butt and her husband, Richard, of Falmouth, Donna Marchand of Saco and Diane Nusom and her husband, C.J., of Falmouth; one sister, Jeanne Gagne of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Hope Memorial Chapel, Biddeford.
Richard R. Kerry Jr.
Richard (Ricky) Kerry Jr., 34, of Saco, died unexpectedly Friday, May 20, 2011, at his home.
He was born on July 21, 1976, in Biddeford, to Richard Kerry Sr. and Marjorie (Saucier) Kerry.
He was a 1994 Thornton Academy graduate and during high school excelled in baseball, hockey and football. He was the highest scorer in the state and went on to make the All-State Football Team his senior year. He continued his education at Bridgeton Academy and Plymouth State College.
Mr. Kerry went into the family business for several years and most recently was employed by Fallbrook Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie (Saucier) Kerry.
Survivors include his father, Richard Kerry Sr. and stepmother, Hanna; brothers Timothy and Thomas Kerry of Saco; sisters Theresa Pratt and her husband, Daniel, of Old Orchard Beach and Lee-Marie Brown and her husband, Shawn, of Saco; step-siblings Jennifer Pasteur of Denver, Colo., David Welch of Boca Raton, Fla., and Maggie Welch of Biddeford; his grandmother, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements were by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
Robert H. MacGillivray
Robert H. MacGillivray, 83, of Biddeford Pool, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., to Hugh Duncan and Edith Maude (Corkum) MacGillivray.
Mr. MacGillivray was raised in Brimfield, Mass. He attended Hitchcock Academy in Brimfield, Mass.; Springfield Tech, in Springfield, Mass.; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, N.Y.; and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 29, 1974, he married Judith E. Duncan in Biddeford.
Mr. MacGillivray was employed as an electrical engineer at several companies, including Raytheon, Alden Research, General Electric and Center Point Energy. He retired in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Judith E. MacGillivray of Biddeford Pool; two stepdaughters, Kim E. Crepeau and her husband, Raymond, of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Terri L. Davis and her husband, Billie, of Boerne, Texas; one stepson, Matthew C. Delong and his wife, Toni, of Cypress, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Bassett of Biddeford Pool; and four nieces and nephews.
