OOB High School names 2011 top 10


Taylor Mezoian, the class valedictorian, is the daughter of Caroline and Mike Mezoian. She was president of her class all four years of high school and student council member throughout high school. She was secretary her sophomore year and president her junior and senior years. She played on her school’s field hockey team all four years, was tri-captain her junior year and a co-captain her senior year, and was awarded Academic All-State her senior year. She also played tennis her freshman, sophomore and senior years. Mezoian received the Dartmouth University Book Award and received the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine Academic Achievement Award and the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Appreciation. She was a member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year, and was the vice-president of the club her senior year. She also was a member of the Interact Club, Natural Helpers, jazz choir, and was a volunteer at Maine Medical Center. Next fall she will attend Providence College on a full academic scholarship to study biology in the honors program.

 

Gillian Foss,class salutatorian, is the daughter of Lance and Donna Foss. She was president of National Honor Society, a two-year student council representative and three-year member of the community service-based Interact Club. She played varsity basketball and softball for all four years of high school and was a co-captain in both sports during her junior and senior years. She also played varsity soccer for two years and was a co-captain in her senior season; while managing her athletic commitments she also played saxophone in marching band, jazz ensemble and concert band.

Foss received academic awards in English and history, as well as all-conference and all-academic honors for all three of her varsity sports. She was one of two Old Orchard Beach High School students to win a national essay contest last year and represented her high school at a Washington Workshops Congressional Seminar.

Next fall, she will major in journalism in the honors program at Marist College

 

Maryanne LaFollette is the daughter of Jamie and John LaFollette and is third in her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and works part time at a local lawyer’s office after school. She prides herself in participating in community service through various volunteering opportunities and has dedicated more than 150 hours to her church and community

Among one of her most memorable accomplishments was spending a week feeding the homeless in New Orleans during a Hurricane Katrina relief mission in 2008. She participated in both her church choir and school jazz choir for four years and plays three instruments.

Next fall she plans to study biology in the honors college at the University of Maine and hopes to attend medical school.

 

Victoria Bryan, daughter of Paula and Patrick Bryan, is fourth in the class of 2011. She was a member of student council and was vice president during her junior and senior years. She was also a class officer throughout high school, was secretary her freshman year and vice president her sophomore, junior and senior years. In addition to her work in student government, she was a member and secretary during her senior year of National Honor Society and participated Interact Club.

Bryan participated in soccer, basketball and tennis and was captain of both tennis and soccer and earned the Western Maine Conference Award and All-Academic Award in soccer. She received the Bowdoin Book Award and the Western Maine Conference Citizenship/Scholar Award.

Next fall she will major in history at Susquehanna University.

 

Shelby Bourgault is the daughter of Janice and Michel Bourgault and was an active participant in activities both in and out of high school. She was inducted into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year and has been a principal leader of the Natural Helper club for all four years of high school.

A dedicated member of the Old Orchard Beach High School marching band, Bourgault has performed with the group since the seventh grade. She joined the cheerleading squad in her senior year and was captain of varsity tennis in her senior year. She won an essay contest sponsored by the National Society of the Colonial Dames in her junior year and was awarded a  weeklong trip to Washington, D.C., for her essay about pivotal Supreme Court cases.

This September she will major in international relations at Connecticut College.

 

Michelle Johnson is the daughter of Sheila and Greg Johnson and ranks sixth in her class. She started as an Interact member in her freshman and sophomore years and became president during her last two years. In her senior year, she became the yearbook editor. Her grades allowed her to be involved in National Honor Society for three years. Johnson’s participation in student council started during her sophomore year and ended in her senior year. Her skills in art gained her several awards and she was voted most artistic by her senior class.

She will attend University of New England next fall to major in nursing.

 

Kelsey Eleanor Koenigs is the daughter of Mark and Lee Koenigs and ranks seventh in her class. She was captain of the varsity soccer team, president of Natural Helpers her junior and senior year and treasurer of Interact. She earned two state championships while playing for Maine Coast United Soccer Club.

Koenigs was inducted into the National Honor Society her sophomore year and is  one of two seniors who continued to attend youth ministry when St. Margaret’s parish consolidated with Good Shepard’s Parish of Saco. She was a class representative in the high school’s student council all four years and was voted student council secretary this year. Next fall she will attend Boston University and major in public health with aspirations to continue on to the Peace Corps Master’s International Program as a graduate student.  

 

Brett Allen, eighth in the class of 2011, is the daughter of Brooke and Jim Allen. She was a member of the National Honor Society for her senior year. She played basketball and golf all four years and was co-captain for both of her senior seasons.

Allen was vice president of Interact her senior year and participated in many community service activities her junior and senior years.

Next fall she will major in geology and creative writing at Southern Maine Community College.   

 

Katie Hatch, ninth in her class, is the daughter of Kim and Whitney Hatch. She participated in soccer, basketball, softball and track, and she earned varsity status in soccer, basketball and track. She was chosen for the All-Conference team in soccer during her junior and senior years and basketball her senior year.

Hatch is a member of the National Honor Society and Interact Club and helped in the community at several venues. She was a member of the concert band for three years and marching band for one year.

She will attend New England College to  become an elementary school teacher and  will continue to play soccer and basketball there.

 

Ariane Bouchard, 10th in her class, is the daughter of Don Bouchard and Gina Martinez. She earned membership in the National Honor Society and worked with the student council.

She played softball her freshman and sophomore years and was member of the varsity field hockey team for all four years of high school. She was a co-captain of the field hockey team in her senior year, was appointed to the 2010 Western Maine Conference-All Conference Team and voted the team’s most valuable player. She also was also a member of the high school’s Interact Club and Jazz Choir.

She will attend the University of Maine-Orono to study business and communications.
