Biddeford police arrest

Arundel man after chase

An Arundel man faces multiple charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase on the Maine Turnpike.

Biddeford police on Aug. 17 arrested Jack Coffey, 51, on a charge of operating under the influence unrelated to the chase earlier that morning. Following the arrest in Biddeford, officers contacted State Trooper Bernard Campbell, who charged Coffey with a second OUI, eluding an officer and two counts of speeding.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said Campbell stopped Coffey for allegedly speeding on the turnpike. Coffey then led police on a chase that ended in Arundel, according to police. Coffey’s pickup truck was found abandoned behind a garage and police believe he fled into nearby woods, McCausland said.

Coffey is free on bail pending a Sept. 28 appearance in York County Superior Court.
