By 4 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, people are lining up on the steps to the parish hall at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco.
Twice a week, the Saco Meals Program serves about 50 people, beginning with a hot, three-course meal and ending by giving out food donated by local stores.
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, a concert at the auditorium at Thornton Academy will benefit the food program, which Co-coordinators Jackie Fontaine and Charlene Soucy said is seeing increased demand from clients of all ages.
“We offer a welcoming, pleasant meal,” Fontaine said, adding the program has served as many as 77 people at a recent sitting.
The Works of the Heart Concert features Michelle Currie, the Jennifer Comeau Band, the Pepperell Squares and others. Admission is a $10 donation to the program.
Sponsored by local businesses and churches, Fontaine estimated the program is at least 18 years old and had started as a way to help older residents with limited mobility.
Tickets for the Works of the Heart concert are available at Most Holy Trinity Church on Main Street, Union Church in Biddeford Pool, Saco and Biddeford Savings at 252 Main St. in Saco, and Midtown Music at 571 Elm St. in Biddeford.
