Give resident his ‘rights, liberty and freedom’ back

To the editor:

Join in the fight for rights, liberty and freedom to use Bradbury Street Extension in Biddeford.
The following city coucilors and mayor took away that right because there was traffic in the area.
Councilors Bob Mills, 517-9108; Jim Emerson, 571-4188; David Bourque, 284-5664; Clement Fleurent, 83-3772; Rick Laverriere, 282-5272, and Mayor Joanne Twomey, 286-9385.
Call the Courier at 282-4337 or e-mail editor@inthecourier.com with your feelings about the issue. The street was closed just to reduce traffic on Mason Street, where the mayor and relatives live.
It would take 2,000 register voters to sign a petition to have a question put on the November ballet. If anyone has the help and time to do this, it would be the way to go. If not we should vote in new councilors who care about the rights, liberty and freedom of all the people. This is what a lot of Americans have and are fighting and some dying for. All the council has to do is vote to reopen Bradbury Street Extension, but the present council is too un-American to care about the people’s rights, liberty and freedoms.
I will be glad to help in any way I can. For more information, you can call me at 247-3968 or 776-8765. With enough people involved we should be able to get our rights, liberty and freedoms that I and so many others have fought for and are still fighting for. Need all the help we can get to correct this problem.

Seek alternative to fights

To the editor:

In response to the Sept. 8 front page story on the Piersons Lane street fight, I worry that if this type of behavior is condoned by our police department and the community at large, it sends the message that fighting in any form is OK.
We recently passed an ordinance in our town that punishes landlords of unruly buildings.  How about if we begin holding everyone accountable for bad behavior?  Let’s think of our children and their future.
And for the two young fighters ... there’s a great little boxing gym in our downtown – Southern Maine Boxing Gym – at 140 Main St. you might like to check out. Peace.

Writer has had enough

To the editor:

Voting rights have not been extinguished as some suggest. Preventing same day voter registration will prevent fraud, however large or small.
If voting is really important to you, you have at least 360 days in each calendar year to register your intent to vote. This accounts for all possible voting days, including local special elections that may arise.
You only need to register once, unless of course you move frequently. Even with a single move, you can adequately prepare to register in your new hometown. If you intend on voting, get registered today. Or tomorrow. Or the day after. Stop the excuses and bellyaching. Get out there and vote.
