Letters to the Editor - Sept. 29, 2011
To the editor:
This is in response to a letter to the editor that appeared in the Sept. 15 issue of the Courier about Bradbury Street Extension being closed to through traffic.
I cannot help but believe that the only reason that street was closed off to traffic was because Mayor Joanne Twomey lives in that neighborhood, as do other family members and I feel it was likely closed as a convenience for the Twomey family. It is a huge inconvenience for everyone else.
The closure is absurd and that street should be re-opened to traffic. If anyone has sat at the traffic light on the corner of Elm and South streets, especially traveling toward Biddeford High School and/or during heavy commuter times, the wait to get through is horrendous.
Traffic needs to flow better in and around that area and having Bradbury Street Extension open would relieve some of that. It just makes sense. I lived on Middle Street for several years and lots of traffic cut through that street to avoid the traffic light on the corner of Hill and Pool streets. Do you suppose anyone who lives on Middle Street would want a concrete barricade in their neighborhood? I doubt it. Any I truly doubt that Mayor Twomey would even give that consideration since it’s not her neighborhood.
